Former Alabama safety DeMarcco Hellams making big plays for Atlanta Falcons during NFL Preseason

Former Alabama safety DeMarcco Hellams has been a bright spot on the Atlanta Falcons defense throughout the first two weeks of the NFL Preseason. Thus far, Hellams has recorded 12 tackles and two interceptions.

Hellams was a ballhawk at Alabama over the course of his four-year career. The Maryland native tallied 255 total tackles, three interceptions, and one forced fumble. Hellams was a starter on Alabama’s defense as a junior and senior.

Hellams was a player that led by example. Hellams’ teammates coined him with the nickname “Hitman Hellams”, stemming from Hellams’s tenacious mindset in the safety position.

The Falcons might have gotten themselves a steal by drafting Hellams in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL draft. That appears to be the case as the Falcons head into Week 3 of the NFL Preseason.
