Into focus: Thursday's MetroWest and Milford-area Fantastic Five high school athletes

The shape of the season is coming into focus. Thursday's MetroWest and Milford-area Fantastic Five (plus one) high school athletes put their teams in position to earn league titles, checked off major milestones and thrilled in the clutch.

They cover four sports and represent six schools.

Without further ado, here's who stood out Thursday, May 9:

NICOLE AYRE, Tri-County softball

She doubled and homered, driving in two runs to provide the separation for the Cougars, who beat Bristol-Plymouth 8-6. The victory clinched at least a share of the Mayflower League title for Tri-County (10-2, 5-0 Mayflower). The Cougars can win the title outright over the next two games. Tri-County's Neila Schweitzer had two hits.

LIZZIE BRYTOWSKI, Hopedale softball

She punched out 15 batters in a 12-0 win over Blackstone-Millville, including the 500th of her career. Brytowski allowed just one hit for the Blue Raiders (13-1, 8-0 Dual Valley).

IZZY DOHERTY & MACY SCHNEIDERAT, Millis girls tennis

The No. 2 doubles pair won the decisive point in a 3-2 victory over Dedham. They prevailed 6-4, 7-5. Millis (5-5, 4-4 TVL) No. 1 Olivia Fong won 6-2, 6-3, while Amelia Stapels prevailed 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

PATRICK FLANNERY, Bellingham boys lacrosse

He made 21 saves in a 7-3 win over Medway. Ryan Austin put away three goals with three assists for the Blackhawks (4-9, 2-7 TVL), while Brady Carroll scored twice with an assist.

JACK MARINO, Blackstone Valley Tech baseball

He struck out 11 in a shutout, as the Beavers beat Bay Path 3-0. Marino also was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer. Alex Vosburgh doubled among his two hits for BVT (11-3, 4-2 Colonial), while Max Pilkington contributed an RBI single.

DYLAN McEVOY, Franklin boys lacrosse

He put away three goals and two assists and scored the game winner in overtime, as the Panthers beat St. John's 11-10. Eddie O'Brien had a hat trick for Franklin, while Drew Hanasen scored twice, including the game-tying goal with seven seconds remaining.

Baseball

WELELSLEY 4, Braintree 3: Max Boehm allowed just two hits and one earned run with five strikeouts to earn the win for the Raiders (9-4, 6-3 Bay State Conference). Wellesley's Henry Redgate and Luke Miele added two hits each.

BRISTOL-PLYMOUTH 9, Tri-County: Nathan McCurdy had the lone hit for the Cougars (5-6, 3-4 Mayflower).

LINCOLN-SUDBURY 5, Weston 2: Matt Mahoney drove in two runs and scored one on a 2-for-3 day for the Warriors (12-3). L-S' Logan Umbach (two runs) and Peter Abair had two hits each. Jenson Martin earned the win over 3 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.

HOPKINTON 10, Norwood 1: Derek Hatherley had two hits and three RBIs for the Hillers and earned the win on the mound with nine strikeouts over five innings, allowing just two hits and two walks. Hopkinton's Lucas Hodne (two runs, RBI), Charlie Petruney and Peter Mahon (two RBIs) had two hits each.

WESTWOOD 9, Holliston 4: Teddy Peters and Jake Schoenberg had a hit and an RBI each for the Panthers, while Albert Savino drove in a run.

FRAMINGHAM 3, Newton North 2: Robby White homered and had two RBIs for the Flyers. Framingham's Lucas Messer added a hit and an RBI, while Jeremy Auren threw a completer game allowing just four hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

KEEFE TECH 3, Blackstone-Millville 2: Jaxson Fertel dropped a squeeze bunt and drove in Jason Starowicz as the Broncos (4-7) walked off.

HOPEDALE 7, AMSA 4: Brayden Lewis went 2-for 2-with a three-run double in the top of the fourth and two runs, Brady Walsh was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Nate Montville had a hit and a run for the Blue Raiders (11-4). Trevor Petty went 2-for-4 with two runs for the Eagles (7-4).

ALGONQUIN 8, Westborough 1: Zach Meehl went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, while Nick Klein, Brennan Rice and Thomas Boudreau all had two hits and two runs for the Titans (5-8, 3-5 Mid-Wach A). Dylan Fischer drove in Brendan Martel in the top of the sixth for the Rangers (5-11, 2-5).

BELLINGHAM 6, Medway 0: Josh Bouchard score three runs and stole two bases for the Bkackhawks (8-5). He also threw a scoreless first inning. Bellingham's Alex Hughes added six innings of scoreless relief with six strikeouts, allowing just one hit.

Softball

MEDWAY 9, Bellingham 3: Priya Bedard had three hits and stole three bases, driving in two runs for the Mustangs (9-3, 8-3 TVL). Medway's Katie Anderson (triple), Ava Fahey, Olvia Klaus (two RBIs) and Nina Pacella dropped in two hits each.

LINCOLN-SUDBURY 9, Needham 5: Sarah Danielson was 4-for-3 with a double, two Runs and an RBI for the Warriors, who scored four runs in the seventh inning to break a 5-5 tie. L-S' Eliana Krasnow was 4-for-5, while Natalie Gaeta had two RBIs and two hits. Nicole Lent and Grace Messina (two runs) each went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

DEDHAM 4, Millis 2: Riley Caulfield struck out seven and allowed just two earned runs for Millis.

NIPMUC 12, Douglas 2: Keegan Kelly was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Sera DeBaggis went 3-for-4 with three runs for the Warriors (13-1, 8-1 Dual Valley).

HUDSON 14, Leominster 8: Colbie Lacina singled three times and drove in four runs, while Lauren O'Malley singled, tripled and drove in a run and Sydney Roush (RBI), Alyssa Davis (RBI), Samantha Collette (2 RBIs) and Audrey Lenox (2 RBIs) all had two hits for the Hawks (9-5, 4-3 Mid-Wach A).

MARLBOROUGH 8, Algonquin 6: Catherine Seay was 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs, while Carolina Burgos and Marisol Burgos scored two times each for the Panthers (8-5, 6-4 Mid-Wach B). Phoebe Lefebvre drove in three runs for the Titans (4-10, 3-8).

HOPKINTON 3, Norwood 2: Addy Walls was 2-for-3 with an RBI double and picked up the save for the Hillers (10-5). Hopkinton's Alex Reisenberger allowed just three hits over six innings.

Boys lacrosse

NASHOBA 10, Alongquin 7: Jack Gulachenski had three goals and one assist and Declan Mulkerin scored twice for  the Titans (8-5, 5-3 Mid-Wach A).

WELLESLEY 17, Braintree 2: Christian Rivard put away four goals for the Raiders (8-5). Wellesley Aiden Riley found the net three times.

NATICK 9, Brookline 4: Levi Gagnon scored five times for the Redhawks (8-6), and Ray Gilkes had two goals.

HOPKINTON 16, Norwood 3: Wyatt Iantosca and Jack Provencher turned over the Mustangs six times each for the Hillers (11-1).

Girls lacrosse

WESTBOROUGH 16, Bromfield 8: Kayla Ehrlich pumped in five goals with two assists for the Rangers (13-2). Westborough's Kate Sams scored four times, while Regan Kittredge won eight draw controls and found the net once.

MEDFIELD 20, Ashland 10: Anna Magennis scored six goals with an assist for the Clockers (10-4, 8-3 TVL). Ashland's Julia Schreiber contributed two goals and two assists, while Paige Tripp and Lili Vitta added a goal and an assist each.

ALGONQUIN 6, Nashoba 4: Grace Chiota recorded a hat trick and Bella Roman chipped in two goals and two assists for the Titans (9-4, 5-2 Mid-Wach A).

LUNENBURG 14, Marlborough 3: Ella Hobin netted two goals for the Panthers (3-8, 3-4 Mid-Wach B).

Boys volleyball

BELLINGHAM 3, Millis 0: Zach Mantegani put down 13 kills with nine digs and three aces for the Blackhawks (7-6, 7-3 TVL). Bellingham's Jack Davidson had 11 kills, four digs and two aces in the 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 win, while Wagner Lorenco added seven kills.

MARLBOROUGH 3, Wachusett 1: Sam Ssempa turned away seven blocks to go along with his 11 kills in a 25-27, 25-19, 25-20, 25-21 victory for the Panthers (12-3).

NATICK 3, Brookline 0: Branch Barnes put down 11 kills with three assists and three blocks in the 25-19, 25-17, 25-17 victory for the Redhawks (12-1). Natick's Harrison Landry had 35 assists, while Nick Bonavire slammed down 13 kills.

Boys tennis

MARLBOROUGH 4, Grafton 1: Sumair Singh weathered a 6-0, 6-7 (9-11), 6-4 victory over Max Schmidt at No. 3 singles. The Panthers (7-4) sept the singles positions, as Maurya Virmani bested Zoeib Sharif 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1, and Manraaj Singh won 6-2, 6-2 over Hanuram Manikandan at No. 2. Marlborough's No. 2 doubles team of Ethan Kwan and Malav Ravula beat Dimitri Morris and Logan Le 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).

ALGONQUIN 4, Nashoba 1: The Titans' doubles teams delivered a straight sets sweep. Jax Jackson and Jackson Stiles beat Alex Dow and Dimitri Klochkov 6-0 6-0 at No. 1 and the No. 2 pair of Jack Fruhan and Ben Dane downed Harry Cantin and Miguel Abreu 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Konal jandu won 6-1, 6-1 over Alex Jangro for Algonquin (3-9), while Vish Makhadhevan beat Carter Neuschafter 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3.

Girls tennis

HOPEDALE 5, AMSA 0: The Blue Raiders' No. 2 doubles pair of Gabriella Rinehart and Madison Buttonow weathered three sets against AMSA's Katina Gakis and Riley Whittier 6-1, 1-6, 6-4. Pia Obrador beat Saisha Kolluri 6-0, 6-1 for Hopedale (9-2). Blue Raiders No. 2 Kate Feisma bested Rachel Chennakara of AMSA (3-8) 6-0 6-3, and Sidney Hall won 6-7(1), 7-6 (5), 10-2 at No. 3. Hopedale's top doubles team of Abigal Aldrich and Callie Constanza bested Ava Daly and Stell Damoulakis 6-4, 6-0.

ALGONQUIN 4, Wachusett 1: The Titans capture tow of their points over three sets. No. 2 singles player Siyona Bhagwar beat Xin Zheng 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, while Algonquin's No. 1 doubles pair of Claire Wallace and Becca White prevailed 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 over Sadie Cevcik and Gabby deLeon. At No. 2 doubles, Sophie Kopstein and Riya Mahanta won 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) for Algonquin (8-4) against Chau Quach and Katrina Szarama. Siya Arde beat Ekaavil Daga 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

SHEPHERD HILL 4, Marlborough 1: Megan Fanelli held it down at No. 1 singles for the Panthers (1-9) with an 8-2 pro-set win.

WELLESLEY 5, Brookline 0: Sarah Mackey prevailed 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles for the Raiders, while Nicole Tavis won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Girls golf

WESTBOROUGH 30.5, Auburn 23.5: Shelby Drayer's 10-over 46 at Westboro GC led the Rangers (9-3).
