Florida remains outside AP Top 25 Poll after Missouri win

The Florida Gators are still outside the AP Poll Top 25 after Saturday’s 24-17 victory over the Missouri Tigers, their first SEC win of the season and Billy Napier’s first conference win as head coach of the Orange and Blue. The Gators still received 56 votes.

The Orange and Blue started the season unranked but jumped to No. 12 after beating then No. 7 Utah Utes in a thrilling 29-26 victory in Billy Napier’s first game as Florida head coach. They then dropped to No. 18 after losing to Kentucky in their SEC opener 26-16. They then dropped to No. 20 after a disappointing win against USF. A loss to Tennessee the next week dropped them out of the Top 25. They have been unranked ever since.

Other notable AP rankings include Georgia retaking the No. 1 position, Ohio State jumping to No. 2, and Alabama dropping to No. 3. UCLA jumped seven spots to No. 11, TCU rose four spots to No. 13, and Mississippi State leaped seven spots to No. 16. Utah and Kentucky dropped nine spots each to No. 20 and No. 22, respectively. James Madison, who is 5-0 despite being ineligible for post-season play or the Sun Belt championship due to their transition status, made their debut in the poll at No. 25.

Tennesse jumped two spots to No. 6, their highest ranking since the 2005 preseason when they were ranked No. 3. The Volunteers will host College Gameday, ESPN’s college football pregame show, for the second time this season when No. 3 Alabama comes to town in the most anticipated “Third Saturday in October” in recent memory.

Florida’s next game will be at home against LSU. Billy Napier and Brian Kelly will make their first appearances in the Florida-LSU rivalry, with both coaches in their first season with their programs. The game will be broadcast on ESPN with kick-off scheduled for 7 p.m. EDT.
