Florida football loses running back with season-ending ACL injury

Florida football suffered another tough injury blow at the end of training camp when running back Cam Carroll suffered a torn ACL in Friday's scrimmage,

Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier confirmed the injury on Saturday.

"One of the more challenging things as a coach and I would tell you for our team is injuries," Napier said. "It kind of just hits you right in the gut. Cam will respond. He will get the full support of our team and our organization, and he'll be back. I'm looking forward to that when it does happen."

Carroll, a transfer from Tulane, was expected to add a pass-catching element out of the backfield and a third ball carrier behind starters Montrell Johnson and Trevor Etienne. He had 516 yards rushing and 198 yards receiving in his last full season at Tulane in 2021.

Carroll's injury could open up carries for freshman Treyaun Webb, who is one of the young players Napier said on Saturday stood out in camp. Webb, a former Jacksonville Trinity Christian Academy standout, rushed for 3,488 rushing yards and 48 TDs in his high school career.

Carroll is the second season-ending injury of UF fall camp. Florida lost defensive end Justus Boone to a torn ACL in the first scrimmage, a freak injury that occurred while he was celebrating a play.

"Two injuries, one on each side of the ball," Napier said. "Outside of that, I would say it's your typical training camp relative to player participation and the things you normally deal with."

Updates on Florida football QB Jack Miller, C Kingsley Eguakun

Napier said quarterback Jack Miller is dealing with tenonitis in his throwing shoulder.

“He has tendinitis in his cuff," Napier said. "So we just slowed him down a little bit. We’ll get him back here shortly.”

Starting center Kingsely Eguakun, meanwhile, has sat out UF's last two practice, including Saturday's scrimmage, with an undisclosed injury.

We feel good abo"ut player availability relative to when we turn the page," Napier said. "Some of those guys you mention we anticipate getting back soon.”
