Florida football defensive lineman arrested on reckless driving, evading police charges

Florida football freshman defensive lineman Michai Boireau was arrested on five counts — including a felony charge of evading a police officer — in a traffic incident in Monroe County, Ga., over the weekend.

After being arrested on May 18, Boireau spent three nights in Monroe County Jail before being released on bond, according to the Monroe County (Ga.) County Sheriff's website.

In addition to the felony charge, Boireau was arrested on misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license, obstruction of law enforcement officers and speeding in excess of maximum limits.

According to Steve Reece, who first reported the story for the Monroe County (Ga,)/Macon reporter, Boireau was arrested after fleeing Monroe County Deputies in his black, 2018 BMW and speeds of up to 150 miles per hour before slamming into another car.

A three-star recruit from Fairburn, Ga., the 6-foot-5, 382-pound Boireau enrolled at UF the spring semester to play for the Florida Gators after totaling 86 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 5 sacks and 5 quarterback hurries as an interior defensive lineman at Creekside High School.

Boireau is the second Florida football player to be arrested this offseason. Florida preferred walk-on wide receiver Brian Green Jr. was arresting on a first-degree misdemeanor battery charge following an altercation with his girlfriend.
