Florida barely slips in USA TODAY Sports’ re-rank after narrow home win

Florida football is coming off a shaky victory at home against the South Florida Bulls last Saturday, but as the old adage goes, a win is a win. While the Gators looked overwhelmed at times by what was supposed to be an inferior opponent, at the end of the day the Orange and Blue got the job done, and subsequently, the national media was not terribly dismayed with that outcome.

Billy Napier’s team lost a little ground in both the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25 Poll this week, dropping one spot to No. 22 in the former while sliding two spots to No. 20 in the latter. USA TODAY Sports’ Paul Myerberg also chimed in with his college football 1-131 re-rank after Week 3, putting Florida at No. 17 in his rankings – down just one spot from the last update.

The Gators are among six Southeastern Conference schools in the top 25, headlined by the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Next up is the Kentucky Wildcats at No. 8 along with the Arkansas Razorbacks at No. 10; the Tennessee Volunteers follow the Gators at No. 23 and Ole Miss Rebels come in at No. 24 to wrap up the top SEC teams.

Florida and Tennessee are slated to face off in Knoxville this Saturday with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m. EDT. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports and can be heard on the Gators Radio Network.
