Fleetwood to induct five into its Sports Hall of Fame

Dec. 26—Fleetwood will induct five into its Sports Hall of Fame Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.

The public is welcome to attend.

The Class of 2023 — Alexis Schoener, Nick Desiderio, Jenna Hawkins, Troy Rothenberger and Mike Mayer — will be introduced at approximately 7:15 p.m. before the boys basketball game between Upper Perkiomen and Fleetwood on the first night of the Fleetwood Tiger Classic Tournament.

Here's the Class of 2023:

Schoener, a 2018 grad, was a two-time All-State soccer player (2016, 2017) who also was the Berks Player of the Year as a senior. She led the county in scoring as a senior with 31 goals and 14 assists on a team that won the District 3 Class 3A title and reached the state quarterfinals. She also helped the Tigers win the Berks title as a junior. She went on to play at Penn State Berks and was the 2019 NEAC Player of the Year.

Desiderio, a 2009 grad, was a standout in soccer and tennis. In soccer, he was an All-Berks and All-State selection as a senior, when he helped the Tigers win the division title and finish second in Berks and District 3 Class 2A. In tennis, he was a three-time All-Berks pick and a three-time District 3 singles qualifier. He also won the BCIAA Flight 2 singles title as a freshman.

Hawkins, a 2016 grad, was an All-Berks goalie in soccer who set a school record for shutouts in a season. As a senior, she helped lead the Tigers win the District 3 Class 2A title and reach the state semifinals. She played in college at Bloomsburg, where she was an All-American in 2019. She also was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2019, and helped the Huskies win two PSAC titles. She was named Bloomsburg's Husky of the Decade for women's soccer.

Rothenberger, a 1984 grad, was an All-Berks selection in soccer and basketball. In soccer, he helped Fleetwood win the Berks title in 1983. In basketball, he helped the Tigers win a District 3 Class 1A title in 1984, when the team reached the state semifinals. He set numerous rebounding records.

Mayer, a 1975 grad, has been an outstanding player, coach and official. As a player, he was an all-division selection in basketball, a standout in soccer and a three-year varsity starter in baseball. In baseball, he hit over .300 in 1974 for a county finalist. He has served as varsity girls basketball head coach, varsity boys assistant coach and varsity baseball assistant coach. He has officiated soccer for 43 years and has called PIAA championship games five times.
