Our Five: Best college football traditions
College football is awesome. So are the traditions that take place throughout the nation. As the 2018 season officially opens this weekend, here are five of our favorite college football traditions. Some are new. Some are old. They’re all great.

No. 5: Wisconsin’s Jump Around
The Wisconsin student section goes crazy to the song “Jump Around” at the end of the third quarter. The craziness has been known to create movement on the Richter Scale.
No. 4: Osceola and Renegade at Florida State
Before every Seminole home game, a student depicting Osceola rides in on a horse named Renegade and plants a flaming spear at midfield.
No. 3: Iowa’s wave
This is the newest tradition in college football and it should stay forever. A floor of the children’s hospital next to Kinnick Stadium overlooks the playing field where kids and their families can sit and watch Iowa’s home games. In 2017, Iowa fans started turning and waving to the kids in the hospital at the end of the first quarter. If this doesn’t make you happy, there are few things that will.
No. 2: Auburn’s Toomer’s Corner
After a big win, Auburn fans roll the trees at Toomer’s Corner with toilet paper. The tradition had to be adapted — but never wavered — after a crazed Alabama fan poisoned the trees following an Iron Bowl matchup in 2011.
No. 1: March On at Army-Navy
The annual Army-Navy game is always a must-watch in December. The schools get the weekend to themselves and the game is more event than football game. Cadets from both schools march onto the field before the game. It happened in the snow in 2017.
Honorable Mention (there were simply too many to choose from): Colorado’s Ralphie run, Texas A&M’s 12th Man, Clemson’s Howard’s Rock … and your school’s best tradition.
