First Florida Credit Union Athlete of the Week poll for Jacksonville: Sept. 25

The results are in.

Trinity Christian junior Mari King is the Florida Times-Union's First Florida Credit Union Athlete of the Week for the 2023-24 high school sports season, covering the week of Sept. 9-15 in the Jacksonville area.

The outside hitter won the most valuable player award while leading the Conquerors to the JJVA River City Classic title, beating Astronaut, St. John Lutheran, Mandarin, Tallahassee Lincoln and Ridgeview.

Now in her fifth season of varsity volleyball, she has already surpassed 1,500 kills and 1,000 digs for her career and entered the week atop Florida's MaxPreps rankings in kills.

She placed first in a vote of top Northeast Florida performers that included Nancy Cox (Ponte Vedra girls golf), Kylie Elrod (Clay girls swimming), Nolan Harper (Beachside boys golf), Owen Kerkezi (Bishop Kenny boys swimming), Tommy Offord (Palatka football), Matt Ryan (Nease boys cross country), Sofie Stam (Bolles girls cross country) and Tony Williams (White football).

It's time to vote for Florida Times-Union's next First Florida Credit Union Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 18-23, 2023.

The Times-Union gathers nominees from scores, stats and nominations e-mailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across Northeast Florida. Coaches can e-mail these stats and scores to preps@jacksonville.com.

This week's voting begins Monday morning and closes at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour.

Anthony Brown, Englewood football

The two-way senior caught six passes for 103 yards and a touchdown, returned an interception 69 yards for another TD and scored four two-point conversions as the Rams defeated Stanton 46-3.

Olivia Callipo, Middleburg volleyball

The junior setter recorded 70 assists while helping the Sharks to a six-match winning streak with wins over Nease and Ponte Vedra, including a career-high 42 assists as the Broncos beat Ponte Vedra for the first time in 11 years.

Alaysa Chipunov, Mandarin girls cross country

The sophomore won the girls invitational race at Hare and Hound in Charlotte, N.C., running 19:25.4 at McAlpine Creek Park.

Lily Doyle, Ponte Vedra girls swimming

The sophomore set a meet record of 4:56.56 in the 500-yard freestyle, helping the Sharks win the girls team championship at the Frank Holleman Invitational.

Myles Kendrick, Riverside football

The junior returned an interception for a 100-yard touchdown, caught a scoring pass and gained 234 all-purpose yards to lead the Generals past White 32-20 in a District 3-2M clincher.

Andy Kravchenko, Bolles boys swimming

The junior won the 50-yard freestyle in 20.55 seconds, setting a meet record and leading Bolles to the boys team championship at Saturday's Frank Holleman Invitational.

Kalia Polete, Fleming Island girls golf

The senior won medalist honors in the Golden Eagles' victories this week against Oakleaf and Middleburg.

Matthew Swain, Bishop Snyder boys golf

Led the Cardinals to a pair of victories over the week against Christ's Church and Ridgeview, including medalist honors against Christ's Church with a 37 to improve the Cardinals' record to 8-3.

Asa Swope, Creekside boys cross country

The sophomore ran a personal-best 16:12 to finish second among individuals, leading the Knights to the team title at the Bale-N-Trail Original.
