Fire alarm goes off during Yankees-Red Sox series finale

BOSTON — Giancarlo Stanton’s bat is so hot these days, apparently it set off the fire alarm at Fenway. The Yankees slugger was at the plate at 8:11 p.m. Sunday night when suddenly sharp alarms with bright flashing lights around the ancient ballpark went off — stopping play for four minutes.

The sold-out crowd, players and umpires were quieted as they awaited word on what to do next. Umpire crew chief Joe West consulted with the Fenway head of operations on the field to determine if it was an emergency.

After four minutes, play resumed at 8:15 p.m.

Stanton, who won Saturday night’s game with a grand slam, singled on a ball that caromed hard off second base. A message flashed on the scoreboard indicating it was a false alarm.
