Final Erie County list of Top Performers for District 10 spring sports season: May 22-27

This week is the last the Erie Times-News will publish its list of Erie County's Top Performers for District 10's spring sports season.

Top Performers will return shortly after the start of the PIAA's 2023 fall sports season.

Boys track and field

Aivan Vargas, Lucas Boyd, Riley Kordes and Kameron Chadsey, North East: The quartet combined for a fourth-place time of 8 minutes, 4.31 seconds in the Class 2A 3,200-meter relay during the PIAA meet at Shippensburg University.

Nick Krahe, Harbor Creek: The senior, in his final athletic appearance for the Huskies, finished fourth (52 feet, 1 inch) in the PIAA meet's 2A shot put.

Reed Yost, Seneca: He cleared the bar at 13-3 for the eighth and final in the PIAA meet's 2A pole vault.

Bradon Schneider, Erie High: The Collegiate Academy senior, by winning the Class 3A pole vault (15-6) became the Royals' inaugural gold medalist for a PIAA meet.

Brandon Konieczki, Harbor Creek: He was the eighth-place medalist (21-2 3/4) for the 2A long jump during the PIAA meet.

Girls track and field

Isabel Owens, Fairview: She concluded her running career for the Tigers' with a fourth-place time of 2 minutes, 18.42 seconds in the Class 2A 800 portion of the PIAA meet at Shippensburg University's Seth Grove Stadium.

Baseball

Nick Jackson, Cathedral Prep: His grand slam accounted for the Ramblers' first four runs in their 11-0, five-inning shutout of Slippery Rock in a District 10 Class 4A semifinal at Mercyhurst University.

Colin Bolla, Fairview: His consecutive no-hit innings ended at 12 over three games, but he still helped the Tigers eliminated Mercyhurst Prep 3-2 in the District 10 Class 3A semifinals. ... The starting pitcher for the Tigers’ 2-0 perfect-game victory versus Franklin struck out 16 Knights over 6⅓ innings of the teams' district quarterfinal.

Jacob Babo, North East: The Grapepickers, thanks in part to his go-ahead RBI single in the sixth inning, advanced to District 10's 3A final with their 2-1 win against Harbor Creek.

Izaak Ogrodowczyk, McDowell: His game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning in the Trojans' 1-0 win over Erie High in District 10's Class 6A championship game at Mercyhurst University.

Reid Courtwright, North East: His seventh-inning, two-run home run provided insurance for the Grapepickers, who blanked Titusville 3-0 in a District 10 3A quarterfinal.

Giovanni Barbato, Harbor Creek: The Huskies beat Girard 4-3 in the teams’ District 10 3A quarterfinal thanks to his two RBIs, the second being a bases-loaded, hit-by-pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning at Mercyhurst University.

Brayden Sprickman, Cathedral Prep: His home run was the biggest hit for the Ramblers during their 16-1, 3-inning elimination of Corry in a District 10 4A quarterfinal.

Alex Manendo, Mercyhurst Prep: His RBI double in the top of the ninth inning was the difference for the Lakers when they beat Conneaut 2-1 in extra innings of the teams’ District 10 3A quarterfinal at Allegheny College.

Softball

Madison Simmerman, Cathedral Prep: Her two-run single was the only offense the Ramblers required when they beat Conneaut 2-1 in District 10's Class 4A semifinals.

Ibree Rodgers, Fort LeBoeuf: Her RBI single was the difference when the Bison eliminated Corry 5-4 in the District 10 Class 3A semifinals.

Lauren Konkol, Seneca: She scored the decisive two runs for the Bobcats, who rallied from a three-run deficit and upset Wilmington 7-5 in District 10’s Class 2A semifinals. The tournament's quarterfinal round saw her pitch a complete-game shutout and drive in a run when they blanked Saegertown 4-0.

Baelyn Randolph, Iroquois: Her two-run double was the biggest hit for the Braves when they beat West Middlesex 6-2 in District 10’s Class 1A semifinals.

Gabby DeLuca, McDowell: She socked a two-run home run and was the winning pitcher for the Trojans, who ended Taylor Allderdice’s season with a 10-0, 5-inning win in a PIAA Class 6A subregion game. Two days earlier, she also was McDowell's dominant player with 12 strikeouts as a pitcher and two hits and two RBIs as a hitter during a 13-1, 5-inning win over Erie High in District 10’s 6A final.

Hannah Smith, Harbor Creek: Her four RBIs, which included a three-run triple, highlighted the offense for the Huskies when they won a 12-2, 5-inning District 10 Class 3A quarterfinal at Penn State Behrend.

Kadence Bailey, Fort LeBoeuf: She had three hits for the Bison during their 13-3, 5-inning win against North East in a District 10 3A quarterfinal at Penn State Behrend.

Payton McCray, Corry: Her three-run, inside-the-park home run highlighted the Beavers’ 6-3 victory over Fairview in their District 10 3A quarterfinal.

Boys volleyball

Octavian Sperry, Mercyhurst Prep: The Lakers, with the aid of his 23 kills, recorded one of the great upsets in the history of District 10 postseason athletics when they beat powerhouse Meadville in five sets of a Class 2A semifinal at Cochranton. His 17 kills highlighted the team's first postseason victory, their 25-23, 25-19, 25-20 sweep of Conneaut in the quarterfinals.

Boys lacrosse

Charles McBrier, Cathedral Prep: His five goals helped the Ramblers to an easy 15-3 victory against first-year Hickory in a District 10 Class 2A semifinal.
