On to Final 4: Somerset Berkley softball upsets Billerica to advance in tournament

BILLERICA — It's on to the Final 4 for the Somerset Berkley softball team.

The seventh seeded Raiders scored four runs in the bottom of the 11th inning and came away with a 5-2 extra-inning, upset win over No. 2 Billerica on the road.

With the win, SBR (17-6) will face the winner of either third seed Tewksbury or 11th seed Bedford at a time and date to be determined.

"Today was a complete team effort," Raiders head coach Sally McKinnon said. "They remained focused and poised throughout the entire game."

Tatum Swanson went the distance for SBR, scattering 10 hits, one earned run, walked five (two intentional) and struck out six batters.

Offensively, Makenzie Jacob went 2-for-4 with a double, two walk and two important RBI in extra innings. Gabriella Nugent was 3-for-6 with an RBI in extra inning.

Cali Leger, Sydney Bednarz (double, RBI), Emma Javier (RBI) and Jordan Theriault (sacrifice fly) each finished with a hit in the victory.

The contest had a 2 1/2 hour rain delay.
