Filip Forsberg sets Nashville Predators single-season goals record with 44th

Filip Forsberg has set a single-season goals record for the Nashville Predators.

With a power-play goal in the first period against the Chicago Blackhawks, Forsberg scored his 44th goal of the season, passing Matt Duchene's mark of 43 set in 2022.

On the play, Forsberg shot a one-timer from the top of the right circle that snuck over the right shoulder of goalie Arvid Soderblom. Luke Evangelista, who was credited with an assist on the play, quickly grabbed the puck from inside the Chicago net, recognizing Forsberg had just reached the milestone.

Forsberg, whose career high had been 42 goals, is also the Predators' all-time leading goal scorer, having passed David Legwand's 211-goal mark on March 19, 2022. He signed an eight-year, $68 million contract with Nashville on July 9, 2022, after some speculation that he would leave in free agency.

This season, Forsberg has flourished playing with newcomers Ryan O'Reilly and Gustav Nyquist. That line has been one of the most productive in the NHL, scoring a combined 92 goals so far, and leading the Nashville attack since late October.

Forsberg was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the first round of the 2012 NHL Draft. In 2013, the Predators acquired him in exchange for forwards Martin Erat and Michael Latta.
