Filip Forsberg breaks Nashville Predators' single-season goals record in win vs Ducks

The Nashville Predators didn't make any major moves Monday, the NHL's trade deadline.

General manager David Poile instead opted to stick mostly with the personnel that helped the Predators reach the postseason last year and looks like it likely will this season.

The biggest news for Nashville, though, was not that Filip Forsberg still was in a Predators uniform - Poile said he never seriously entertained trading the man who became the franchise's all-time leading goal-scorer Saturday.

Forsberg broke his own record with another goal Monday, and broke another later when he gave scored an empty-net goal in the third period of a 6-3 victory to the Anaheim Ducks, the first in a three-game road trip for the Predators.

Forsberg finished with five points.

Matt Duchene briefly tied the same record when he put the Predators ahead by two later in the third for his 34th goal. The power-play goal was the third of the game for Nashville, most of that variety since October 2017.

It was the Predators' seventh consecutive game with at least four goals, a franchise record.

His score 1:45 into the third period was his 34th goal of the season, tying him with Viktor Arvidsson for the most in a season in franchise history.

One acquisition, defenseman Jeremy Lauzon, who came to Nashville from the Seattle Kraken in a deal Sunday, made his Predators debut with Mattias Ekholm out with what Poile said was an illness.

Predators goalie Juuse Saros left the game during the third period because of a skate blade issue, but quickly returned after resolving the issue with equipment manager Pete Rogers.

Predators rookie Tanner Jeannot leveled Sam Carrick during the first period, then leveled him again after accepting Carrick's suggestion they drop the gloves.

But the Ducks struck first on the scoreboard, when former Predator Derek Grant scored with 10 minutes, 42 seconds left in the first.

Predators captain Roman Josi tied the score with 3:12 left in the first, extending his point streak to 10 games with his 18th goal and his 23rd point in that span.

Ryan Johansen's power-play goal with 16:58 remaining in the second put the Predators ahead 2-1 after Nick Cousins drew a double-minor high-sticking penalty. It was Johansen's 17th goal of the season.

Forsberg picked an assist on the play, extending his points streak to seven games.

The Ducks evened the score with 8:34 left in the second on a delayed penalty on Troy Terry's 30th goal of the season.

Duchene's power-play goal just after Forsberg scored made it 4-2 and extended his points streak to 10 games and left him one behind Forsberg with 33.

Grant's second goal of the game, with 9:47 left in the third, cut the Predators' lead to one.

Predators defenseman Mark Borowiecki returned to the lineup after missing 11 of the previous 12 games with an injury.

The Predators are 37-22-4 and moved into third place in the Central Division. The Ducks are 27-27-11.
