The father of Wisconsin wide receiver Quintez Cephus was shot in the head at a Macon, Georgia, convenience store Monday.

Andre Jamar Taylor died Tuesday. He was 39 years old.

A man, Calvin Stapleton, turned himself in Monday evening and was charged with attempted murder before Taylor’s death. According to the Macon Telegraph, a police investigator said Taylor was shot “execution style” after the two had an apparent conflict.

Wisconsin officials told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that Cephus had left Madison to go to Macon and that wide receivers coach Ted Gilmore went with him.

Per a man who told the Telegraph he was a cousin of Taylor’s, Cephus’ father was quite proud of his son.

“That’s all (Taylor) ever talked about was his son was going to play in the NFL,” Westside said.

Cephus was a freshman in 2016 and had four catches for 94 yards. His biggest reception was a 57-yard catch vs. Iowa. The former three-star recruit had 42 catches in his senior year at Stratford Academy high school.

According to Badger Blitz, Wisconsin’s Rivals team site, Cephus is a projected starter at wide receiver alongside Jazz Peavy. Wisconsin’s pass game should be potent in 2016 with the return of quarterback Alex Hornibrook, Peavy and tight end Troy Fumagalli all returning.
