Father of Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes arrested in Texas on suspicion of drunk driving

Former Major League Baseball pitcher Pat Mahomes, the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was arrested in Texas on Saturday night on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to jail records.

The Smith County judicial center's online database shows that Mahomes was taken into custody by the Tyler (Texas) Police Department on February 3 on a DWI charge. The arrest comes eight days before his son plays in Super Bowl 58 against the San Francisco 49ers.

His potential bond was not listed.

Court records show 11 other incidents involving Mahomes Sr., including multiple arrests for driving while intoxicated.

According to the Kansas City Star, Mahomes pleaded guilty to DWI in 2018 and was sentenced to 40 days in jail, which he served on weekends from February 2019 through February 2020.

The elder Mahomes, a native of nearby Lindale, Texas, played 11 seasons in the major leagues for six different teams from 1992-2003.
