Fantasy Football: Quarterback starts and sits for Week 8

Starts and sits is here to help fantasy managers make those all important last minute lineup decisions .While we won’t tell you about obvious starts such as Tua Tagovailoa or Jalen Hurts, we will find players you may be waffling about and help you make a decision.

Let’s look at quarterbacks for Week 8.

Start: C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans

A battle of the top two rookies from this draft class is set to take place this Sunday and CJ Stroud is certainly the one better set up for success in the immediate future and in this game. Carolina is missing multiple pieces from their defense to injury and their secondary depth is dwindling. With plenty of weapons for Stroud to take advantage of, and motivation to prove himself over the number one overall pick, Stroud becomes a lock as a top 15 quarterback this week.

Start: Tyson Bagent, Chicago Bears

Here’s a name to cross off your bingo card for the 2023 NFL fantasy season. Bagent looked very good in Chicago’s victory over the Las Vegas Raiders and seemed like he is already up to speed with the NFL game. This week he faces a Chargers team motivated to put up a ton of points, and Bagent should in kind be given plenty of opportunities to do the same. This is obviously a boom or bust pick that could go either way, but I definitely think their are worse options for daily fantasy and two quarterback leagues. Plus, don’t you want to be the genius who got their win because of Tyson Bagent?

Sit: Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

Truthfully we don’t really know where Kyler Murray is in his recovery process or if he will even suit up this weekend. With his first full practice logged on Wednesday there is a chance Arizona will fire him up against the Baltimore Ravens. That does not mean fantasy managers should fire him up into their lineups this week. With a vaunted Ravens team staring them in the face this week, and having been out of football for an extended period of time, it’s impossible to project Murray to come out and be his old self. Keep him rostered for now and monitor his play should he end up with the start on Sunday.

Start: Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings

Kirk Cousins has been playing the quarterback position the best he has in his entire career, including a dominant performance in a win over an elite San Francisco 49ers defensive unit. Cousins’ connection with Jordan Addison has proven to be a huge boost with the loss of Justin Jefferson to injury, and both should be ready to repeat their performances from last week against the Green Bay Packers. Cousins is a must start quarterback until he proves he isn’t that guy.

Sit: Sam Howell, Washington Commanders

It’s easy to see second year quarterback Sam Howell as a fantasy success this season given the heaping of points he has offered from time to time, but this week against the Eagles it’s probably best to temper expectations. Washington is on pace to smash the record of sacks surrendered in a season by a wide margin with the worst offensive line in the league, that offensive line now faces one of the most dominant defensive lines in the league. This is a recipe for disaster that fantasy managers need to stay away from.
