Fantasy Football: Potential bargains, must-plays from Giants-Bills game
The New York Giants (1-4) travel to Buffalo to play the 3-2 Bills on Sunday Night Football in Week 6 of the 2023 NFL season.
The Giants appear to be in for another embarrassing, lopsided loss in front of the entire nation. But that doesn’t mean you should sit on your wallets and not reap the benefits of some interesting fantasy options.
Here are some fantasy options you should consider.
Bills QB Josh Allen
In standard leagues and in DFS (Daily Fantasy Sports), Josh Allen is the top-scoring fantasy quarterback so far this season.
He is third overall in FPS (fantasy points) on DraftKings, behind San Francisco running back Christian McCaffrey and Miami wide receiver Tyreek Hill and second on FanDuel to McCaffrey.
The Giants have been fairly respectable against quarterbacks this year (16th) but in reality have been involved in blowouts in which the opposing teams took the air out of the football the second half of games.
Allen doesn’t sit on leads and is coming off a game in which the Bills lost to Jacksonville as 5.5-point favorites. He’ll want to show America who’s boss this Sunday night.
Bills RB James Cook
The Giants, despite all of their offseason efforts to fortify their run defense, still can’t stop the run. Not only will Allen run all over them on Sunday night, but running back James Cook will, too.
The Giants have been allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to running backs this season and there doesn’t seem to be much help on the way. Inside linebacker Micah McFadden (ankle) is questionable this week. He is one of their top tacklers.
Bills WR Stefon Diggs and WR Gabe Davis
The Giants have a young secondary and a lukewarm pass rush. As a result, they are among the bottom 10 teams on all of the platforms when it comes to defending wide receivers.
Will Allen going off, Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis should have solid games against the disorganized and inexperienced Giants’ secondary.
Diggs is third among wide receivers in FPS this season. Davis is 12th.
Bills defense
The Giants are averaging 12.4 points per game this season, next to last in the NFL. The Bills are allowing a bit more than that (16.0) this year, but don’t expect the Giants to pile up the points in this one.
Buffalo leads the NFL in sacks with 21 and the Giants are allowing a league-high 6.0 sacks per game.
The Bills lead the NFL with 13 takeaways. The Giants are tied for fourth with eight giveaways.
Should you play any Giants? No
With the offensive line in such disarray, it’s hard to gauge what these Giants are capable of. Unless you have no other living options, you should bench your Giants this week.
The only possibilities are quarterback Daniel Jones, running back Saquon Barkley, tight end Darren Waller and wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson.
Of the four, three are dealing with injuries. Jones (neck), Barkley (ankle) and Robinson (concussion) are all uncertain heading into the week.
Waller is healthy and coming off his best performance as a Giant but the Bills have been very stingy against tight ends this year, allowing the second-lowest point total after six weeks.
