Fan picks the absolute worst time to tell Bryce Harper he's 'overrated'

If you’re going to heckle a baseball player, make sure you pick a phrase that won’t come back to haunt you. One fan learned that in the absolute worst way after trying to throw Washington Nationals star Bryce Harper off his game.

With the Nationals already leading the Cincinnati Reds 5-3 in the ninth inning, Harper stepped to the plate looking to extend the team’s lead. Harper already hit a home run earlier in the contest, so he seemed pretty locked in.

That’s when one fan hatched a brilliant plan to throw Harper off his game. Just before the 2-2 pitch was delivered, the fan yelled “overrated” loud enough for the broadcast microphones to pick it up.

Harper responded by launching that pitch deep to center for his second home run of the game.

Nationals announcer F.P. Santangelo makes sure to bring up the fan’s jeer after the home run is hit. As Harper is heading back to the dugout, Santangelo says, “Did you hear the guy right before the pitch in the stands say ‘overrated?'” His booth-mate Bob Carpenter responds with, “Overrate this.”

Let this serve as a lesson to all the trolls out there. Don’t heckle a guy who has already hit a home run against your favorite team in a game. But definitely don’t do that if the player in question is Bryce Harper, who is an absolute monster at the plate when he’s healthy.
