Fall all-area series: Here are the top 2023 Athens-area high school softball players
The next leg of our 2023 fall sports all-area series brings us to softball.
Many Athens-area teams found success. Prince Avenue Christian went home with new bling after winning their first softball state championship in school history. North Oconee and standout Oklahoma commit, junior Kendall Wells, secured a spot in Columbus once again with a 4A region championship. Other teams like Apalachee and Jefferson reached the playoffs before falling in the super regionals.
The area continues to produce elite talent. Here are the 2023 Athens high school softball all-area players.

Class 1A-Division 1 champions: After more than a decade coming so close, Prince Avenue Christian softball wins state title
Player of the year: Audrey Vandagriff, Prince Avenue Christian
Senior center fielder and Alabama softball signee Audrey Vandagriff is the 2023 Athens Banner-Herald All-Area Player of the Year. She helped the Wolverines to their first Class A-Division I state championship title and was named the GACA Player of the Year.
In 39 games, she had a .623 batting average, .685 on-base percentage, eight doubles, two triples and a school record 22 home runs. She scored 79 runs and had 59 RBIs, produced 3.45 runs per game and stole 49 bases.
