All about Kate

Do you have any rituals before a round of golf?

I like to put my hair up in a braid. If it's windy, my hair would fly in my face. I won't wear one when I'm practicing.

Tell something about you that most people don’t know.

I have a twin brother (Chase). I'm not sure that's very interesting. He came to watch me play (in Tuesday's final round of the Class 6A state golf tournament). We're pretty close, which is nice.

What has been your favorite vacation?

When I was in fifth grade we went on an Alaskan cruise. I don't remember too much about it, but I do remember going dog sledding. We visited Glacier Bay National Park.

What do you consider to be the world’s greatest invention?

Maybe the telephone. Maybe that means I'm a little addicted to my phone, but it's a great form of communication.

Past or present, if you could see any concert, whom would you see?

Fleetwood Mac. I like older music from the ’80s or ’90s. I really like their music and listened to them a lot growing up. My parents played a lot of older songs. My favorite song from them is "The Chain."

What are you looking forward to the most when you compete next year at Abilene Christian?

It's going to be their first year with a women's golf program. I'm really excited about that. I think they're a good group of girls going and some good players from (the class of) ’24 going.

How has Lake Travis prepared you for the next chapter of your life?

All the teachers and staff are super nice and uplifting. They've followed me along my golf career. They take notice of students in extracurricular activities.

On golfing at Lake Travis

How proud were you to win a bronze medal at state golf this week?

I was really happy. I'm proud of our team even though we didn't place where we wanted to. Individually, I was looking forward to coming in first, but third is a good placement. I was on a low with my game the past few months.

How do you stay composed on a golf course when things aren’t going your way?

That's a good question. I feel like I've had a pretty good mentality my whole golf career. I try to forget about my last shots, no matter if they're good or bad. I don't want them to get in the way of my next shot because basically that's all I'm thinking about. I really don't get too negative, which is one of my better assets.

Dream dinner

If you could have dinner with four people in the history of the world, who would they be?

That's so tough. I'm going to pick Tiger Woods, Albert Einstein, Cillian Murphy and maybe Denzel Washington. If I could pick a fifth guest, I'd go with Taylor Swift.

Whom do you think would do the most talking?

Maybe Albert Einstein. He had a big brain and probably would have a lot to say.
