Exeter's Roeder, Spaulding's Trueman win Athlete of the Week honors for Sept. 25-30

The Seacoast High School Athletes of the Week winners are Exeter soccer player Lauren Roeder and Spaulding football player Hunter Trueman for the week of Sept. 25-30. The weekly vote highlighting the week's outstanding high school athletes is presented by York County Community College.

Roeder joins previous fall 2023 girls Athlete of the Week winners: Portsmouth field hockey player Audrey Walsh, St. Thomas Aquinas soccer player Maddie Karsonovich, Winnacunnet soccer player Maitri Clifford and, St. Thomas soccer player Kate Burrus.

Trueman joins previous fall winners including Portsmouth unified soccer player Riley Willard, Oyster River soccer player Logan Piller, Portsmouth/Oyster River football player Angus Moss and Winnacunnet golfer Jimmy Schouller.

The weekly poll runs each Monday through midnight Thursday, and can be found at seacoastonline.com/sports and fosters.com/sports.

Trueman collected 40% of the online votes, for a total of 198 to capture the award. Dover football player Brady McInnes finished second with 145.

Jack Byron of Traip Academy football received 55 votes, Winnacunnet soccer player Zane Lepere had 49 and Newmarket soccer player Matt Napoletano had 43, for third through fifth place finishes, respectively.

Trueman ran for over 250 yards, and scored four rushing touchdowns as the Red Raiders picked up their first win of the season last Friday night over Edward Little, Maine, 57-18.

"Hunter had a tremendous game last Friday against Edward Little," Spaulding head coach Kevin Hebert said. "He rushed for 258 yards on just 13 carries, and he had four touchdowns of nine, 14, 22 and 71 yards. He also had a reception of 41 yards, and had a great game defensively."

Roeder won the online voting by collecting nearly 34% of the votes at 108 to win this week's award. Winnacunnet golfer June Doerr finished second with 76 votes.

Marshwood field hockey player Erika Parker had 51 votes, Portsmouth Christian Academy soccer player Jaela Stockbower had 48 votes and Exeter cross country athlete Eli Cross was fifth had 37 votes, for third through fifth, respectively.

Roeder scored three goals and had one assist in the Blue Hawks' 5-0 win over Dover last Thursday, and scored a goal in last Tuesday's 2-1 win over Nashua South.

"Lauren Roeder being chosen as Athlete of the Week is well deserved," Exeter head coach Megan Young said. "She has had an outstanding season for us so far and continues to lead our offense each and every day. Despite being heavily marked, Lauren's speed, touch on the ball and vision on the field creates excitement and opportunities in our offensive end.  Whether she is scoring a goal of her own or setting up one of her teammates, she is involved in every play offensively."
