Ex-St. Vincent-St. Mary standout Savion Washington touted as NFL player by Deion Sanders

At least one player clearly made an impression on former Kent State football coach Sean Lewis before he left to join Deion Sanders with the Colorado Buffaloes.

Now that player has made an impression on Sanders.

Savion Washington played high school football at St. Vincent-St. Mary and earned an athletic scholarship to Kent State. He transferred to Colorado for 2023 and has two seasons of eligibility left after this one.

Washington, Colorado’s starting left tackle, is coming off an injury and Sanders is eager to get him back.

“That kid is tough – mentally, physically. He’s a dog. He’s a future pro. He’s one of the kids – I love all of them – but he’s one of the kids I’m very fond of and I love his story and I just love what he represents for us.”

At 6-foot-8, 320-pounds, his frame is reminiscent of Browns rookie right tackle Dawand Jones. The similarities don’t end there. Washington also played basketball for the Irish as Jones did for his high school team.

Washington won all-district honors, made the Beacon Journal’s "Best of Preps" team and was St. Vincent-St. Mary’s offensive lineman of the year in 2019.
