Ex-Eagles cornerback Eric Allen among 15 finalists for NFL Hall of Fall's Class of 2024

Former Philadelphia Eagle star Eric Allen is one huge step closer to football immortality.

The former All-Pro cornerback was selected as one of 15 finalists for the NFL Hall of Fall's Class of 2024 on Wednesday night.

It's the first time Allen was selected as a finalist. He was nominated as a semifinalist in November along with fellow former Eagles Ricky Watters, who fell short as a finalist.

Eric Allen's career highlights

Allen played for 14 seasons, including the first seven with the Eagles. He's a six-time Pro Bowl selections and was named an All-Pro three times. He had 54 career interceptions, which is 21st all-time. He also had eight interception returns for a touchdown — ranking eighth all time.

Allen's best season in Philadelphia was in 1993 when he intercepted six passes. He returned four for touchdowns, including a 94-yard interception return against the New York Jets.

He played for the Eagles from 1988-1994, the New Orleans Saints from 1995 to 97 and the Oakland Raiders from 1998 to 2001.

Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2024 finalists

Among the Class of 2024’s Modern-Era candidates are nine players who reached this stage in the selection process when the Class of 2023 was chosen, two players in their first year of eligibility and four players who are finalists for the first time after a combined 40 years of eligibility, according to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The candidates will be considered when the Hall of Fame’s Selection Committee meets prior to Super Bowl LVIII, which will take place Feb. 11 at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.

The Class of 2024 will be unveiled Feb. 8 during the NFL Honors presented by Invisalign broadcast from Las Vegas on CBS Television Network and NFL Network and streamed on Paramount+ and NFL+. The show starts at 9 p.m. ET.
