Every change you should know on Michigan football 2023 roster update
It’s the first day of fall camp practice, and with that, Michigan football is commemorating it with the release of its 2023 roster.
Oddly, there’s a lot fans can glean from roster updates, including new names, names that have disappeared (though there are few this year, and no surprises), number changes, position switches, weight lost, and weight gained.
WolverinesWire scoured the entire roster comparing it to the 2022 edition and noted several changes, interesting notes, the numbers of the freshmen, as well as the transfers, the biggest gainers, the biggest weight losers, and much more.
Here is everything you need to know about Michigan football’s 2023 roster update.
Biggest weight gains
The biggest gainer is a preferred walk-on EDGE, Chibi Anwunah, followed by another walk-on EDGE, Joseph Klunder.
Sophomore offensive lineman Connor Jones gained 22 pounds, transfer Myles Hinton gained 20, as did standout defensive tackle Kris Jenkins.
Other notables include transfer linebacker Ernest Hausmann up 17 pounds, EDGE Kechaun Bennett up 16, transfer EDGE Josaiah Stewart up 15, left tackle Trevor Keegan up 15 a year after losing weight, and safety Rod Moore up 13.

Most weight lost
Not everyone gained weight, a few players trimmed down. There were five notable players who lost weight, with edge rusher Derrick Moore having the title here with 21 pounds shed. Then defensive tackle Kenneth Grant lost 17, Jesse Madden lost 13, Greg Tarr lost 11, and defensive tackle Cam Goode lost 9 pounds.

Position changes
There weren’t many, but a handful of players changed their positions from last year, at least officially.
Kalel Mullings is now solely listed as a running back, no longer a running back and linebacker.
Amorion Walker is listed solely as a defensive back instead of wide receiver.
Brandon Mann is listed as a defensive back instead of quarterback.
Christian Boivin is now listed as a linebacker instead of defensive back.
Dominick Giudice is now listed solely as an offensive lineman instead of both as an OL and defensive lineman.
Trevor Andrews is now a linebacker instead of defensive back.
Alessandro Lorenzetti is now listed as a defensive lineman instead of offensive lineman.
Interesting notes
There are a handful of notes that don’t warrant their own section:
William Wagner gained an inch.
Noah Howes lost an inch.
Liam Groulx is a freshman walk-on from Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day, the same high school as 2024 commits Jadyn Davis and Channing Goodwin.
Dale Chesson is a transfer wide receiver from Dartmouth and the younger brother of former Wolverines wideout Jehu Chesson.
