Everton and Manchester United meet as the Carabao Cup continues at Goodison Park. It’s an intriguing clash between two of the Premier League’s most in-form sides, with United third and Everton fourth after three wins in four apiece.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men have beaten Salford City, Fleetwood Town and West Ham United to reach the last eight, with this being their best run in the League Cup since 2015/16 when they made the semi-finals. The Toffees have never won the competition and have not reached the final since 83/84, so while this is of course a tough fixture, they may feel that with home advantage - and 2,000 fans in attendance - they have a great chance to take a step toward Wembley.

For United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has guided his side past Luton Town and Brighton this term - without conceding a goal so far.

The quarter-final will be a third successive away game in the competition for the Red Devils, but their best form this term has come on the road in any case - with a 100 per cent win rate away from home in the league so far.

What is the team news?

Everton are still without James Rodriguez, Allan and Lucas Digne. Andre Gomes is a doubt but might not have started in any case. Seamus Coleman could come in from the start after returning from injury at the weekend.

Manchester United could be without Scott McTominay after his injury late in the game against Leeds. Luke Shaw is a doubt through injury, but United have everyone else available and the only question is how strong a team Solskjaer picks for this competition.

Predicted line-ups

EVE: Pickford; Coleman, Holgate, Keane, Godfrey; Davies, Doucoure; Iwobi, Sigurdsson, Richarlison; Calvert-Lewin.

MUN: Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles; Fred, Pogba; Greenwood, Van de Beek, Rashford; Cavani.

Odds

Everton - 41/18

Draw - 11/4

Manchester United - 6/5

Prediction

This should be a game where both go for the win rather than be fearful of losing. Perhaps United’s greater depth and ability to rotate at this stage might just edge the match in their favour but Everton will rue a huge missed opportunity if they don’t produce a big performance on the night, given how long it has been since they won a trophy. Everton 1-2 Man United.
