Here are the Evansville-area IHSAA volleyball sectional pairings

EVANSVILLE — The Indiana high school volleyball postseason is almost upon us.

Castle, Memorial, Barr-Reeve, North Posey and Class A state runner-up Tecumseh are the defending sectional champions in the Courier & Press coverage area. Will anyone from Southwestern Indiana string together a deep run this fall? The sectional round will start on Oct. 10.

Here are some quick thoughts on the local brackets:

Football: North football defense pitches another shutout as Kaleb Harris nears program sacks record

We could see a rematch of last year's championship in the Class 4A sectional at Jasper. Castle seeks to extend its state record in sectional titles with 41, but the host Wildcats could stand in its way. While Jasper lost to the No. 3 Knights in five last year and was swept in the regular season, it still has turned it on in this late stretch, picking up a key five-set victory against Class 3A No. 8 Memorial last Thursday.

Heading to the Class 3A sectional at Gibson Southern, there's a good chance Memorial wins its third-straight sectional title. It swept all but one team in its bracket, that team being Mater Dei. Don't be surprised to see the Tigers and the Wildcats in the championship round.

North Posey could also go for a three-peat in the Class 2A sectional at Forest Park. While the Vikings don't get the bye, they do get an eight-win Tell City team should they defeat Crawford County. If the Vikings do get the three-peat, it would be the longest streak of sectional titles in school history.

Some of the best sectional volleyball action in the area could happen in the Class A sectional at Loogootee and the Class A sectional at Northeast Dubois. There will be fireworks in the semifinals at Loogootee if Springs Valley meets Vincennes Rivet as both teams are ranked inside the top-10. Then there's top-ranked Tecumseh, which has one of the easiest roads to the title game of any area team. The Braves face six-win Cannelton at Northeast Dubois.

Below are the complete brackets for the Courier & Press coverage area, as revealed by the IHSAA.
