Etowah high ace pitcher Jameson Scissum commits to Mississippi State baseball

Etowah high's triple sport athlete Jameson Scissum has committed to a sport and, more importantly, a college.

Scissum announced his commitment to Mississippi State baseball on Christmas via X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

"First off I want to thank God for being able to play the game I love in college. I also want to thank my friends and family for everything. Big shoutout to my coaches for believing in me with that being said I will be committing to Mississippi state!! Hail State," Scissum wrote in a post.

In baseball, Scissum took over as the ace pitcher and led the Blue Devils to the AHSAA Class 4A state championship, winning MVP of the championship series and earning All-State honors. Last season, Scissum threw 53 innings with 56 strikeouts allowing 12 earned runs. He was 8-2 and has gone 9-1 over the last two seasons during the playoffs.

He is a .261 hitter with a .368 on base percentage. He brought in 24 runs and scored 16 times.

Scissum is the star football, basketball and ace pitcher for the Blue Devils. He threw for 1,800 yards and ran for 950 more en route to accounting for 20 touchdowns while leading the Blue Devils to the playoffs this past season. In basketball, Scissum is averaging 15 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Perfect Game lists Scissum as the No. 1,056 right handed pitcher in the nation and the 105th player in the state of Alabama. Scissum is a 6-foot-4, 190-poud junior.
