Ester Ledecka celebrated her surprise Super-G gold medal at KFC

How do you celebrate shocking the world and winning a surprise gold medal in Super-G on borrowed skis? If you’re Ester Ledecka of the Czech Republic, who did all that and more on Saturday, you treat yourself.

After her stunning performance on the slopes, new gold medalist Ester Ledecka needed a bite to eat. The Associated Press ran into her waiting for her order at Kentucky Fried Chicken, as normal and non-celebratory as can be.

Ledecka was there with a few fellow members of the Czech team, and had just one thing to say to the AP about her choice of meal: “Don’t tell my coaches.”

Looking at what Ledecka did on Saturday, she deserves the best and tastiest KFC in all the land. Not only did she defeat the defending Olympic champion by .01 seconds to win Super-G gold, Ledecka’s main sport isn’t even skiing — it’s snowboard. She’s one of the best parallel snowboarders in the world, but has been donning skis in a bid to become the first athlete to compete in both ski and snowboard races at the same Olympic games.

Ledecka didn’t just accomplish that goal, she went above and beyond, and created a moment that will be talked about for years to come. At this point, KFC has to get her in one of their commercials, right? Ester Ledecka should be the new Colonel!
