ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky shares how Panthers’ schemes can benefit Bryce Young

At the NFL combine former Alabama quarterback, Bryce Young, measured in with a height of just over 5-foot-10-inches and weight of 204 pounds, nearly identical to Arizona Cardinals quarterback, Kyler Murray. Unfortunately for Young, at this point in his career, he is not likely to grow anymore, so how do you find ways around it?

ESPN NFL analyst, Dan Orlovsky, spent 11 years in the NFL as a quarterback himself and is now one of the brightest minds in sports media right now. He broke down a few different ways that the Carolina Panthers can tailor their offense to build around Young and his height.

For example, former Saints QB, Drew Brees, had a Hall-of-Fame career despite always playing at a size disadvantage. Orlovsky thinks that the Panthers need to steal some things from what they did in New Orleans to help Young out.

The first thing he mentioned was that they can place Young under center, something he didn’t do a lot of in college. In fact, Young only completed seven passes from under center in his two years starting at Alabama. By going under center, it will allow the offensive line to spread out a little more and create windows for Young to see and throw through. He also thinks it’s really important to find ways to keep Young out of harm’s way and to avoid injuries, so not including many designed runs and teaching him to get rid of the ball early.
