ESPN College Gameday host Rece Davis encourages Aquinas football ahead of 2023 opener

Aquinas High School football received a special message Wednesday ahead of its season-opening game.

The Fightin' Irish will host Jefferson County in what will be the last game in their stadium before a year-long renovation of the athletic facilities begins. ESPN College Gameday host Rece Davis sent the Aquinas players a video message, encouraging them and reminding them what this game means for the school.

"I understand you guys are about to start the season and wrap up a storied half-century of history in the final game being played in the original stadium there at a place known for spectacular venues in Augusta, Georgia," Davis said in the video. "You guys are taking on the Jefferson County Warriors and you have to protect this turf one more time. So I wish you all the luck in the world. Go out there and play with your hair on fire. Set your hair on fire and cause a wreck out there and have fun playing football. Good luck and send that stadium the way it should go out, with a victory for the Fighting Irish."
