Erie County's top performing high school athletes for the first week of 2024: Jan. 2-6

The Erie Times-News highlights Erie County's top-performing high school varsity athletes throughout the 2023-24 school year.

Some of those who starred during the first week of 2024 include the following:

Boys basketball

Nate Edwards, Girard: His team-high 24 points were notable when the YellowJackets defeated Erie First Christian 85-51.

Tyler Grove, McDowell: The Trojans won 58-48 at Erie High with help from his 21 points.

Hunter Villa, Fort LeBoeuf: The Bison beat Harbor Creek 52-44 in part from his 15 points.

Nolan Seabury, Seneca: The Bobcats beat Mercyhurst Prep 58-54 in overtime with great aid of his 23-point performance.

Carter Crozier, North East: His baker’s dozen (13 points) were part of the Grapepickers’ 68-39 win against the Northwestern Wildcats.

Markus Lambert, Corry: His robust 28-point performance helped the Beavers defeat Fort LeBoeuf 65-58.

Archie Murphey, Fairview: His 13 points helped the Tigers outlast Grove City 56-51 in overtime.

Rylan Smith, Corry: His 25 points were a significant reason why the Beavers defeated the Harbor Creek Huskies 69-49.

Girls basketball

Grace Allen, Corry: Her 17 points were each needed for the Beavers when they edged Eisenhower 41-39.

Makayla Presser-Palmer, Northwestern: The latest offensive output for the star of the Wildcats was her 24-point performance during their 52-37 victory vs. Conneaut (Pennsylvania).

Bella Dibble, General McLane: Her 20 points were more than half the Lancers’ total and nearly equal to Saegertown’s amount in her team’s 38-22 win.

Aundraya Neavins, Erie High: The Royals needed her 19 points as part of their 34-32 victory vs. the Franklin Knights.

Olivia Kulyk, Mercyhurst Prep: Her 19 points were more than enough to outscore Iroquois when the Lakers beat the Braves 67-14.

Paige Garrity, Fairview: She scored 17 points for the Tigers when they defeated General McLane 51-35.

Haylee Farrell, Seneca: The Bobcats dominated Girard 45-14 in part from her 13 points.

Alex Cozzens, North East: She recorded 27 points for the Grapepickers, who defeated the Eisenhower Knights 76-63.

Amaiya Nelson, McDowell: The Trojans won 55-27 at Harbor Creek with the aid of her 17 points.

Deaja Williams, Erie High: She totaled 14 points during the Royals' 58-26 win over the Fort LeBoeuf Bison.

Jillian Soder, Fort LeBoeuf: She scored 21 points for the Bison, who beat the Conneaut Eagles 47-35.

Libby Opp, General McLane: Her 24 points accounted for more than half of the Lancers’ offense when they beat the Lakeview Sailors 42-34.

Boys wrestling

Story Buchanan, Girard: He was the 152-pound gold medalist for Meadville’s Tool City Tournament.

Andrew Gammon, Cathedral Prep: The 132-pounder’s silver medal effort during the Pin City Tournament at Perry, Ohio, helped the Ramblers finish first in the team standings.

Steven Willis, Corry: The 127-pounder’s 35-second pin was the fastest for the Beavers during their 58-9 dual win against the Union City Bears.

Will English, Cathedral Prep: His fall in the 114 match began the Ramblers’ 69-4 rout of the rival McDowell Trojans.

Nick Fisher, Harbor Creek: His pin in the 152 match gave the Huskies a permanent lead en route to their 42-26 dual victory at Northwestern.

Jojo Przybycien, Fort LeBoeuf: The Bison never trailed North East in their eventual 43-21 Region 4 victory after his first-period pin in the dual's 160 match.

Girls bowling

Taylor Kretz, McDowell: She rolled the high game (268) and series (701) during the initial Metro League play for 2024.

Emalie Thomas, Cathedral Prep: Her 495 series was the highest for the Ramblers when they beat Mercyhurst Prep 19-9 in a Metro League dual at Eastland Bowl.

Boys swimming/diving

Jack Raimy, Cathedral Prep: He was a triple victor for the Ramblers during their home dual against New York’s Canisius High School.

Levi Ehrhart, Corry: He won four times for the Beavers when they defeated the North East Grapepickers 109-56.

Hayden Daubenspeck, Union City: He won four times for the Bears, who beat General McLane 110-61.

Girls swimming/diving

Jaslene Cage, Cathedral Prep: The freshman won twice during the Ramblers’ home dual vs. New York’s Hathaway Brown School.

Mackenzie Spence, Corry: She anchored the Beavers' 400-yard freestyle relay to victory in the final and decisive event of their 94-80 dual win against North East.

Emma Shade, General McLane: The freshman won four events during the Lancers' 137-39 dual victory vs. Union City.
