Enquirer names Greater Cincinnati high school athletes of the week, Nov. 3

Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athlete of the Week logo

In a vote that ended Nov. 3, Cincinnati.com readers selected the Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through Oct. 29.

Fall winners through Oct. 20 will receive certificates sent to the athletic departments within the next week. The remaining certificates will be mailed at the end of the season.

The Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athlete of the Week voting occurs during all high school sports seasons and recognizes athletes across all sports. Here are this week's winners for the 2023-2024 high school sports season.

Ohio football team: Clinton-Massie – The undefeated Falcons opened the postseason with a 50-12 victory against Dayton Dunbar.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana football team: Bellevue – The Tigers beat Jackson County 42-16, snapping a five-game losing streak to end the regular season.

Ohio boys fall team: Waynesville soccer – Waynesville has outscored opponents 20-0 in four postseason games while winning a district title in Division III.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys fall team: Cooper cross country – The Jags finished as state runner-up in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Class 3A state meet, scoring 123 points.

Ohio girls fall team: Ursuline Academy volleyball – The defending Division I state champions defeated Mount Notre Dame in the district championship.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls fall team: Beechwood cross country – Beechwood placed five runners in the top 15 places of the KHSAA Class 1A state meet, winning the state championship with 41 points scored.

Ohio boys cross country: Ben Fahnestock, Mariemont – He won the Division II regional race in a time of 16:14.90.

Ohio girls cross country: Peyton Dooloukas, Goshen – The sophomore cemented her first trip to the state championship with an 11th-place finish at the Division I regional meet in a time of 18 minutes, 40.70 seconds.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys cross country: Nathan Ruth, Bishop Brossart – He became the Mustangs’ first individual state champion, winning the Class 1A meet in a time of 16:04.20.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls cross country: Molly Kamer, St. Henry – She was the Crusaders’ top finisher at the Class 1A state meet, running a time of 21:20.47 for 17th place.

Field hockey: Meg Martin, Mount Notre Dame – Martin broke a scoreless tie in the third quarter of Mount Notre Dame's game against Ursuline Academy. Martin's goal would stand as the game-winner against the Lions. The Cougars won 2-0 to advance to the state Final Four.

Ohio big-school football: Andrew Weber, St. Xavier – The senior had two punt return touchdowns, of 71 and 85 yards, in the Bombers’ 35-13 DI playoff win over Springboro.

Ohio small-school football: Cameron Snider, Bethel-Tate – He threw for 271 yards and five touchdowns, two of them in the fourth quarter, in the Tigers’ 35-20 playoff win over league foe Blanchester.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana football: Jordan Pendleton, Bellevue – He had 195 rushing yards and four touchdowns, as well as an interception in a win over Jackson County.

Big-school boys soccer: Charlie Lynch, St. Xavier – The junior assisted on every goal in the Bombers’ 3-0 win over Sycamore in the district tournament.

Ohio small-school boys soccer: Noah Kazmierski, Waynesville – The junior had a goal and an assist to help the Spartans upset top seed Madeira 2-0 in the district semifinals and helped the Spartans win the district title.

Big-school girls soccer: Presley Pennekamp, Oak Hills – The junior scored a goal in the Scots’ 2-1 win over St. Ursula in the district semifinals and after the team lost to Mount Notre Dame in the finals, ended the season with 46 goals for the year.

Ohio small-school girls soccer: Mila Zanardo, Mariemont – The junior scored two goals in the Warriors’ 3-2 win over Legacy Christian in the district semifinals, then a goal and an assist in their 4-1 win over Bethel-Tate in the district championship game.

Ohio big-school volleyball: Jillian Forest, Ursuline – She had 12 kills and a block to help the Lions beat Mount Notre Dame in a DI sectional final.

Ohio small-school volleyball: Ava Strange, McNicholas – The junior had 16 kills, five blocks and an assist over two games as the Rockets won a Southwest District title.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana volleyball: Milyn Minor, Scott – The sophomore recorded her 1,000th career kill in a 10th Region semifinal win over Bracken County.

Boys water polo: Carter Dickerson, Mason – The senior, and captain, combined for 11 goals in two games over the weekend. In the Comets' final game of the season, Dickerson had nine shots and two steals and helped lead the Comets to fourth place at the state championships.

Girls water polo: Anne Wessinger, Sycamore – The senior stepped up big in the Aviators' game against Mason on Saturday. Wessinger made four goals on 10 shots in the 11-8 victory. In the championship game on Sunday, Wessinger had six shots, two goals and six steals as the Aviators won second place in the state.
