New England Patriots at New York Jets: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 3 game

Editor’s note: Follow all the NFL Week 3 action with USA TODAY Sports’ live coverage.

Two AFC East teams looking to turn around their early season misfortunes will square off in Week 3 when the New England Patriots (0-2) visit the New York Jets (1-1).

It's been a beginning of the year to forget in New England, as the Patriots dropped their first two games − both at home − in one-score affairs. In the "Sunday Night Football" loss to the Miami Dolphins, the Patriots running game struggled as the offense remained unreliable, leaving Bill Belichick at 0-2 for the first time since 2001.

After a triumphant win despite the loss of Aaron Rodgers in Week 1, the Jets misery continued as the offense sputtered against a dominant Dallas Cowboys defense. Back under center, Zach Wilson threw three picks, was sacked three times and the offense was 1-for-10 on third down. With only two offensive touchdowns in two games, New York will face another stern test from a solid Patriots defense.

Lorenzo Reyes: Patriots 17, Jets 10

The last time these two teams played, Zach Wilson threw for only 77 yards. Both teams have solid defenses and awful offensive lines. I’d hammer the under here.

Tyler Dragon: Patriots 20, Jets 16

The Patriots are 0-2 for the first time since 2001. The Patriots would fall to 0-3 if Aaron Rodgers was the quarterback for the Jets. Luckily for New England, Zach Wilson is throwing passes for the Jets. That means there will be plenty of opportunities for the Patriots to create turnovers.

Victoria Hernandez: Jets 17, Patriots 13

This one will be a defensive battle. Last week, Patriots rookie Christian Gonzalez got his first career interception against the high-powered Dolphins offense, but the Jets faced a much-stiffer defense in the Cowboys. New York’s own defensive playmakers will grant Zach Wilson just enough breathing room to capture the home win.

Jordan Mendoza: Patriots 17, Jets 12

With a game between two struggling offenses, expect points to be at a premium in this matchup. As bad as things have looked in New England to start the year, Mac Jones has his best game of the year to lead the Patriots to their first win of the season and make it 15 straight wins against the Jets. The Patriots avoid their first 0-3 start since 2000, Bill Belichick's first season in New England.
