Elmwood/Brimfield runner wins elusive track and field state championship

Isaiah Hill finally got his gold.

The Elmwood/Brimfield runner won his first career track and field state championship on Saturday, winning the Class 1A 1600-meter run in a personal-best 4 minutes, 17.02 seconds.

Hill now has six career IHSA state medals — including three runner-up finishes. He finished second in the 800 run on Saturday, his time of 1:53.82 just behind champion Josiah Hortin of Tuscola (1:51.98). Hill also has silver medals from his previous trips to state.

Hill also is an elite cross country runner. The 2023 Journal Star runner of the year finished fifth place in the Class 1A meet at Detweiller Park — his time of 14:49.0 third-fastest state meet time in Trojans program history. Hill helped Elmwood take home the third-place team trophy.
