Eleven area players earn all-SICL softball recognition

Jul. 27—Colfax-Mingo and Lynnville-Sully split their regular season softball meetings this past summer.

And the two Jasper County programs were separated by just one game in the final conference standings.

But, the Tigerhawks were more represented on the all-conference team as seven Colfax-Mingo players were named to the South Iowa Cedar League squad. Four Hawks earned recognition, too.

C-M senior Caylee Cunningham earned the highest area honor as she was a unanimous first-team selection.

Seniors Carley Underwood and Abi Rawlins also were first-team picks and Lynnville-Sully senior Greenlee Smock joined the Tigerhawk trio on the first team.

Second-team selections included Colfax-Mingo senior Holland Robinette and junior Charlotte Donahue and Lynnville-Sully junior Alexy Conover.

C-M sophomore Madison Stackhouse and eighth-grader Dakota Allen joined Lynnville-Sully seniors Abby Squires and Makayla Tice as honorable mention choices.

Colfax-Mingo finished the conference season 8-7 and Lynnville-Sully was 7-8. All-conference recognition is based on statistics inside conference play only.

Cunningham earned unanimous first-team honors as an outfielder after finishing sixth in the SICL with a batting average of .468. She also ranked ninth in the league with an on-base percentage of .528.

Cunningham's 49 total bases led the SICL and she was tied for third with eight doubles, third with five homers, tied for fifth with two triples and tied for 11th with 16 RBIs.

The Tigerhawk center fielder also finished with five walks, six steals and 17 runs, which ranked tied for 14th in the conference. She was hit by one pitch and her fielding percentage with one error was .957.

Underwood batted .373 and posted an OBP of .433. Her 23 runs ranked fifth in the SICL and she tied for fifth with two triples.

Underwood, who made the first team as an infielder, ranked tied for second with 14 steals, tied for 12th with seven walks and added one double, 24 total bases and 14 RBIs.

Rawlins was a first-teamer as a utility player. She batted .400, posted a .472 OBP and had a .955 fielding percentage. She ranked sixth in the SICL with 12 steals, tied for 10th with 18 runs and tied for 12th with seven walks.

She added 24 total bases, four doubles, one triple and 12 RBIs.

As a pitcher, Rawlins was 7-4 with a 3.72 earned run average. She struck out 33 batters in 67 innings and opponents batted .187 against her.

Robinette was a second-team infielder after batting .370 and posting an OBP of .453. Her fielding percentage of .959 ranked 14th in the SICL.

She ranked tied for ninth with 17 RBIs and finished with 12 runs, three doubles, one homer, seven walks and 23 total bases.

Donahue batted .396, posted an OBP of .418 and had a fielding percentage of .900.

Donahue ranked eighth in the league with 19 runs and tallied one double, one triple, one walk, two steals, 12 RBIs and 24 total bases and she was hit by one pitch.

Stackhouse's honorable mention recognition came after she was one of two players in the league with a minimum of 27 chances to not commit an error. She also threw out five players attempting to steal a base.

Stackhouse batted .326, had an OBP of .408 and tied for 13th in the league with five doubles. She added 10 runs, seven RBIs, six walks, 19 total bases and three steals.

Allen was the other Tigerhawk honorable mention pick and she batted .243 and had an OBP of .243 in her first varsity season. She finished with 11 runs, eight RBIs, one double, one triple and 12 total bases.

Smock was a first-team infielder after ranking seventh in the SICL with a batting average of .455. Her .474 OBP ranked tied for 15th and she led the conference with 16 steals.

Smock's 33 total bases ranked 10th, she was tied for 14th with 17 runs and she finished with three doubles, one triple, one homer, two walks and 11 RBIs.

Conover was a second-team utility player despite ranking in the top 10 of five offensive categories and five pitching categories.

Conover ranked fourth in the league with a batting average of .510 and her OBP of .545 ranked seventh. She tied for third with eight doubles, tied for ninth with 17 RBIs and ranked fourth with 39 total bases.

The Hawks' top pitcher also scored three runs, walked five times, belted a pair of homers and stole two bases.

As a pitcher, Conover was 7-8 and the seven wins ranked tied for sixth in the league. Her 2.36 ERA was second, her .188 opponents batting average ranked fourth and she was fifth with 86 innings. Her 57 strikeouts ranked eighth.

Squires batted .318 and posted an OBP of .388. She finished with six runs, 14 RBIs, three doubles, four walks, 17 total bases and two steals and she was hit by one pitch. Her fielding percentage was .910.

Tice batted .383, had an OBP of .431 and finished with seven RBIs, five runs, four walks, 20 total bases, five steals and two doubles.
