El Diamante's Devin Ibarra, Tulare Western's Ashlyn Reed win section titles
Two Tulare County high school student-athletes brought home an individual 2024 Central Section Track and Field Championship on May 18 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis.
El Diamante’s Devin Ibarra placed first in the 1,600 meters at 4 minutes and 13.62 seconds. The senior bested the 17-runner event by nearly half a second. Buchanan’s Luke Sanders, a junior, came in second at 4:14.00.
Ibarra also finished sixth in the 3,200 meters at 9:20.01.
Tulare Western senior Ashlyn Reed captured the section’s girls' triple jump championship with a launch of 38 feet and 8.50 inches. She also finished third in the long jump at 18 feet and 1 inch.

The Monache boys 4x800-meter relay team of Conner Machado, Jake Estrada, Alberto Andrade and Monte Moore turned in a first-place championship performance, topping the competition at 7:48.73.
Mission Oak’s Levi Jimenez registered a second-place showing in the boys' high jump with a leap of 6 feet and 4 inches.
Porterville’s Ryleigh Schoonover came in second in the girls' 800 meters with a time of 2:15.31.
Dinuba senior Avril Mendoza won the silver medal in the girls' 300-meter hurdles at 43.12 seconds.
Redwood’s Graycie Serpa raced to a third-place medal in the girls 400 meters at 57.28 seconds.

Tulare’s Richard Torrez improves boxing record to 10-0
Tulare native and 2020 Olympic boxing silver medalist Richard Torrez Jr. is still undefeated.
Torrez earned win No. 10 with a five-round knockout of fellow heavyweight unbeaten Brandon Moore on May 18 at Pechanga Arena in San Diego.
Torrez registered his 10th career knockout in the fifth round, finishing off Moore at the 1-minute and 39-second mark.
The Mission Oak grad is now 10-0 after handing Moore the first loss of his pro career. Moore dropped to 14-1.
