Edwards, Ball produce entertaining back-and-forth in first meeting

On Friday, two of the top three picks in the NBA draft met on the hardwood for the first time as Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves faced LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets on the road.

The advantage of the first matchup went to Ball and the Hornets.

Edwards produced 21 points, six rebounds and three assists in 34 minutes of work for his third game of the season with at least 20 points and five rebounds. He shot 9-of-21 from the field and 2-of-6 from 3-point range, his 15th consecutive game with at least one triple.

On the other side, Ball scored 20 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals to lead the Hornets to the 120-114 victory. Ball now has the most 20-point double-doubles by a rookie guard in franchise history with three, and the most 20-point, 10-rebound games with two.

While the two players put up some numbers, they put on a little bit of a show during the second quarter when they scored or assisted on 14 straight points, via Jacob Rude of Lonzo Wire.

Edwards and Ball will meet for the second and final time of the season on March 3, a matchup that figures to be entertaining based on how the first meeting went on Friday.

Of course, Edwards and the Timberwolves will be hoping to walk away with a win in that contest.
