East Central leaves Alva with 1-1 tie

Oct. 27—ALVA — The East Central University soccer team concluded their season series with Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Wednesday night, remaining unbeaten against the Rangers after leaving Alva with a 1-1 draw.

East Central is now 1-9-5 overall and 1-3-5 in Great American Conference action. Northwestern sits at 2-6-8 and 1-3-6.

The Tigers did not find many opportunities to press the attack in the first half, only taking three shots while the Rangers compiled six. The game was a 0-0 stalemate until Northwestern struck first, scoring at the 26:56 mark off a free kick by Katy Jo Werner that took unlucky bounces in the box before landing in front of Victoria Ruvalcaba who settled the ball. Northwestern carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.

ECU capitalized on their first scoring opportunity in the second half, though, when Olivia Witte struck a shot into the back of the net off an assist from Lorianne Baugh to knot the score 1-1 in the 48th minute.

The Tiger offense would force Rangers goalie Rachel Brown to make five saves from the nine shots they fired to break the tie, but none were able to connect. In the final eight minutes, Northwestern put up three shots on goal, but McKenna Leveling came up with the saves to keep the game tied for the 1-1 draw.

ECU and Northwestern each took 13 total shots in the game with the Rangers holding an 8-7 advantage over the Tigers in shots on target.

Lorianne Baugh had three shots on goal while Abbie Morris, Madelyn Bird, Madison Hays, Tanja Bauboeck, and Olivia Witte each had one. Witte's goal was her first of the season and 10th of her career.

McKenna Leveling finished the game with six stops.

The ECU soccer team is scheduled to host Southwestern Oklahoma State at 3 p.m. today at the Tiger Soccer Field.
