DWU men fall to Midland on the road

Dec. 2—FREMONT, Neb. — The Dakota Wesleyan men's basketball team showed resilience on the road Saturday afternoon.

Though the Tigers fell to Great Plains Athletic Conference opponent Midland 67-57, they only trailed 31-28 at halftime. The difference of the game was the shooting efforts of both teams, as the Warriors shot 49.2% from the field whereas DWU shot only 33.9%. The Tigers were also 5-of-28 from behind the arc.

DWU's first-half performance was boosted by Jakob Dobney scoring 11 of his game-high 15 points in the opening 20 minutes. He was 4-of-10 from the field overall, also adding three steals, two blocks, and a pair of assists to his line. Dobney was also perfect from the line, going 6-of-6 for free throws, as the Tigers shot 90.9% from the line.

Blaze Lubbers also added 10 points, going 2-of-6 from the 3-point line, collecting five rebounds. Sam Aslesen finished the game with nine points, eight rebounds, two steals and three blocks, giving the Tigers five blocked shots for the game. Ethan Determan went 6-of-11 from the field on his way to scoring 14 points off the bench.

For Midland (3-6, 1-4 GPAC), Brayden Thompson recorded a double-double, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Derek Merwick matched Dobney's game-high score of 15 points while collecting nine rebounds. The Warriors as a team out rebounded the Tigers 40-31. Jake Rueschhoff also reached double figures, finishing with 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

DWU (6-5, 2-3 GPAC) heads back on the road Wednesday, Dec. 6 down to Orange City, Iowa, where the Tigers will face No. 13 Northwestern. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
