DWU men fall at Jamestown in regular-season finale

Feb. 25—JAMESTOWN, N.D. — A red-hot shooting effort carried Jamestown over the Dakota Wesleyan men's basketball team on Saturday.

In an effort headlined by six double-digit scorers and better than 50% shooting, the Jimmies pulled away early with a 50-point first half en route to a 94-73 final the final regular season contest for both Great Plains Athletic Conference foes.

Jamestown (17-11, 13-9 GPAC) never trailed, scoring the game's first eight points and opening on a 13-2 run inside the game's first three minutes. After trailing 50-34 at halftime, DWU (14-14, 9-11 GPAC) briefly chopped the deficit to nine points in the early stages of the second half but were unable to pull any closer. From there, the Jimmies ballooned their lead to as large as 29 points at 88-59.

Will Cordes led all scorers with 19 points, as Cole Woodford tacked on 16 points and Colby Vazquez had 15 points. Christian Lietz put up 11 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Silas Bennion and Antonio Chandler each dropped in 10 points off the bench. Bennion and Chandler also snagged eight and seven rebounds, respectively.

Jakob Dobney posted 16 points with four rebounds, and Randy Rosenquist Jr. added 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. Samuel Aslesen chipped in 10 points for DWU. The Tigers shot 28 of 70 (40%), including 8 of 35 (22.9%) from 3-point range, compared to Jamestown's 36 of 67 (53.7%).

DWU is the No. 8 seed in the GPAC tournament, setting up a trip to No. 1 seed Northwestern College on Wednesday, Feb. 28. Jamestown claimed the No. 5 seed and a trip to No. 4 Morningside.
