Drake women's basketball picks up transfer commitment from Illinois State guard Abbie Aalsma

The Drake women’s basketball team is adding a player who is more than familiar with the Bulldogs and the Missouri Valley Conference.

Abbie Aalsma, a 5-foot-9 guard from Illinois State, announced on social media Thursday that she’s transferring to Drake.

Aalsma started 34 games for the MVC foe over the last two seasons and is coming off her best season this year.

The Wisconsin native averaged 5.6 points and 1.7 rebounds per game across 66 games to start her college career.

She is coming off a strong sophomore season that saw her average 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting 42% from the field, including 37% from 3-point range

The Bulldogs are trying to build off back-to-back successful seasons that saw them win two MVC Tournament titles and one regular season conference crown.
