Draft reaction: Cowboys select TE Luke Schoonmaker No. 58 overall

The Dallas Cowboys target a potential Dalthon Schultz replacement with their second pick of the draft with Michigan tight end Luke Schoonmaker.

When looking at the stat sheet of Luke Schoonmaker’s college career, it might leave one underwhelmed by the lack of production. He was underutilized during his time at Michigan and really only saw use in his final season where he put up 418 yards as well as three touchdowns on just 35 catches.

Schoonmaker may need some time to develop his underutilized athletic skillset, so he could initially spend time behind veteran Jake Ferguson. Though once training camp is through and coaches see Schoonmaker’s athletic skillset, it may be hard not to draw him into the game plan in some capacity. Schoonmaker may be a stick mover and red zone threat early in his career, and possesses a ceiling that has been lacking at the position since the departure of Jason Witten.
