When does the NFL season start?

You don't have to wait much longer.

The 2023 NFL season begins Thursday, Sept. 7, with a very intriguing matchup with the Detroit Lions playing at the Kansas City Chiefs, but that isn't the only interesting game in Week 1 of the NFL schedule.

The San Francisco 49ers play the Pittsburgh Steelers in another intriguing game on Sunday, Sept. 10, with a lot of people also bound to be interesting in the Miami Dolphins vs. Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles vs. New England Patriots games that same day.

The week concludes with a Monday, Sept. 11 matchup between the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets.

Thursday Night Football schedule

Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs, 5:20 p.m., NBC

Sunday early football games

Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons, 10 a.m., FOX

The Frank Reich era in Carolina begins with a division matchup in Atlanta. A lot of people are really excited about Bijan Robinson, a rookie running back for the Falcons. Count us among those people.

Houston Texans at Baltimore Ravens, 10 a.m., CBS

The Texans are not expected to be very good this season. A win over the Ravens, who have lofty expectations in 2023, would be a huge upset.

Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns, 10 a.m., CBS

Will Deshaun Watson look like the Deshaun Watson of old, or will he just look old? Cleveland is hoping to see their quarterback step up this season, but the Browns face a tough task in Week 1.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Indianapolis Colts, 10 a.m., FOX

The Jaguars are a very trendy pick to make some noise in the AFC. We'll know a lot more about them based on how they fare against a Colts team in transition.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Minnesota Vikings, 10 a.m., CBS

Baker Mayfield is the new QB of the Buccaneers and that just feels weird to write. Kirk Cousins is not the new QB of the Cousins and we have to give the Vikings the edge because of that.

Tennessee Titans at New Orleans Saints, 10 a.m., CBS

How long can Derrick Henry continue to bulldoze opponents? Perhaps we'll get a glimpse of his potential this season against the Saints.

San Francisco 49ers at Pittsburgh Steelers, 10 a.m., FOX

The 49ers once again have very lofty expectations. They will go as far as their quarterbacks take them this season.

Arizona Cardinals at Washington Commanders, 10 a.m., FOX

No one is expecting much from the Cardinals in Jonathan Gannon's first season. Maybe they'll surprise? A Week 1 win at Washington would be a surprise for Arizona.

Sunday late football games

Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears, 1:25 p.m., FOX

Will Justin Fields and the Bears have the breakout season that many are predicting? Chicago really only has one direction to go after a rough 2022.

Las Vegas Raiders at Denver Broncos, 1:25 p.m., CBS

How will the Sean Payton era in Denver begin? We're really not sure, but this team definitely doesn't have a lack of intrigue around it this season.

Miami Dolphins at Los Angeles Chargers, 1:25 p.m., CBS

It wouldn't surprise us if these teams ended up meeting in the playoffs, yet they face off in Week 1. How many points will be put up in Los Angeles? A lot.

Philadelphia Eagles at New England Patriots, 1:25 p.m., CBS

Will the Eagles suffer a Super Bowl-losing hangover or will they use the loss last season as fuel in 2023?

Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks, 1:25 p.m., FOX

We really don't have a good read on either of these teams. Geno Smith surprised last season, will he be able to continue to shine in 2023?

Super Bowl 58 odds: Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans biggest longshots for Las Vegas
