Does Arizona State football have a QB controversy with Trenton Bourguet, Emory Jones?
The Arizona State football team upset No. 21 Washington on Saturday, 45-38, behind a strong performance from redshirt junior quarterback Trenton Bourguet, who came in for starter Emory Jones, who was injured midway through the second quarter.
Bourguet impressed for the Sun Devils, going 15-for-21 for 182 yards, while also throwing three touchdowns and an interception.
Jones exited the game after being hit while attempting to slide after completing a run for a first down on a third-and-six at the Washington 28 midway through the second quarter, right before ASU tied the game at 10.
Jones had been playing well for the Sun Devils. He was 7-for-9 for 59 yards passing in the game and had rushed three times for seven yards.

Bourguet handled that like a multi-year starter. Very impressive.
Also worth noting that Emory Jones was 7 of 9 and Washington’s secondary was very suspect entering this game, played two freshmen for the first time extensively.
But, a QB debate is totally valid now. Thoughts?— Chris Karpman (@ChrisKarpman) October 9, 2022
This is Trenton Bourguet's team now

Yes, let the in-state guys play, and good things happen for Arizona State. Marana-proud QB Trenton Bourguet can get the job done.

Trenton Bourguet is going toe-to-toe with Michael Penix Jr. right now.

DO NOT TAKE BOURGUET OUT.

Trenton Bourguet should be ASU's starting QB moving forward. He can really play.
— Jesse Morrison (@morrscode_) October 8, 2022
Unfortunate Emory Jones was knocked out of this game on a targeting call. But if Trenton Bourguet continues to have the game he's having, Shaun Aguano has to give him a chance going forward.
Bye week will be interesting.— Zach Alvira (@ZachAlvira) October 8, 2022
Cue the Trent Bourguet should be our starting QB argument, 38-24 Sun Devils

QB controversy over the bye? Bourguet has been as good as you could want this game.
— Paul (@RealPaulMadison) October 8, 2022
As well as the offense functions with Bourguet, I’m thinking he should be the starter going forward.

Go Devils! Maybe Bourguet will make Jones a distant Emory. Ta da bum.@MGardnerSports @ASU_SuperFan

Emory Jones had four touchdown passes in five games entering today. Trenton Bourguet has thrown his third and came into the game late. #SunDevils

Trenton Bourguet had two nice throws on third downs for two first-down conversions on the scoring drive. This is the best ASU's offense has looked all year. Arizona State has a bye next week, but should Bourguet be the starter over Emory Jones going forward? https://t.co/CVRFALLdvg

Touchdown Arizona State. Trenton Bourguet, who had attempted a grand total of one pass in his collegiate career entering Saturday, is now 15 of 21 for 182 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.
— Ethan Kilbreath (@EthanArles) October 8, 2022
Outside of the one interception Trenton Bourguet has been incredible. He reads the field goes through his progressions and doesn’t panic. #ASU leads 45-38 over No. 21 Washington with 7:27 left to go. @AZSportsDevils
