District 3 girls' tennis: Rosenbach claims singles title; team, doubles schedule, results

Top-seeded New Oxford is one step closer to defending their District 3 girls' tennis team title.

After with a 5-0 pasting of Elizabethtown in the first round, the Colonials defeated Hempfield 4-1 in the semifinals. They will play Manheim Township in a repeat of last year's championship.

It was the first round of the Class 3A tournament, which runs through Oct. 18.

In Class 2A, No. 3 seed Delone Catholic fell to Lancaster Country Day 3-0 in the semifinal after defeating Trinity 3-2 in the first round. The doubles matches in the semifinals were not finished.

The Squirettes will play Conrad Weiser in the third-place match. The winner qualifies for the state tournament.

Singles

at Hershey Racquet Club (involving YAIAA players)

Class 3A

After finishing as the runner up last year, New Oxford's Anya Rosenbach won the district title with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Cumberland Valley's Riya Srivinas.

Rosenbach defeated Hershey's Angelina Berg 6-0, 6-1 in the first round, Mechanicsburg's Taryn Zerby 6-1, 6-2 in the quarters and Cumberland Valley's Pragnya Joshi 6-1, 6-1 to reach the final.

Red Lion's Lexi Lakatosh will join Rosenbach in the PIAA tournament after finishing third at districts.

Lakatosh defeated Exeter's Hansika Kunduru 6-1, 6-2 in the first round and Manheim Township's Hailey Miller 6-1, 6-2 before losing to Srivinas in the semifinal. She defeated Joshi 6-3, 6-2 in the third-place match.

  • Allison Horick, New Oxford: Horick defeated Mechanicsburg's Ryma Saha 6-0, 6-4 in the first round before falling to Srivinas 3-6, 0-6 in the quarters.

  • Kaelyn Balko, New Oxford: Balko lost to Srivinas 0-6, 0-6 in the first round.

Class 2A

  • Ella Knox, Delone Catholic: Knox lost in the first round, 1-6, 0-6, to eventual champion Emma Perkins of Conrad Weiser.

  • Paytyn Plank, Biglerville: Plank defeated Harrisburg Academy's Mariia Yeni 6-0, 6-0 and lost to Lancaster Country Day's Sophia Babar 6-1, 2-6, 1-6 in the quarters.

  • Baileigh Stetter, Delone Catholic: Stetter lost to Trinity's Katherine Domby 5-7, 4-6 in the first round.

Doubles

Play begins Oct. 20 at Hershey Racquet Club (involving YAIAA players)

Class 3A

  • Kaelyn Balko/Allison Horick, New Oxford: The top seeds defeated Manheim Central's Sydney Peters and Sami Williams 6-2, 6-0 in the first round and Exeter's Hansika Kunduru and Myah Marturano 6-1, 6-4 in the second round. They will play Hempfield's Sophie Carson and Alexandra Gregoy in the semifinals.

  • Kayley Skibicki/Lily Smith, South Western: The Mustangs lost to Sophie Carson/Alexandra Gregory of Hempfield 6-0, 6-0 in the first round.

  • Alex Wolf/Joslyn Loss, New Oxford: The unseeded Colonials defeated Katie Berra/Ava Mansure of Central Dauphin 7-6 (9-7), 6-1 in the first round and lost to Mechanicsburg's Taryn Zerby/Ryma Saha 6-4, 6-4 in the second round.

  • Namya Jindal/Elizabeth Tony, Dallastown: The unseeded Wildcats lost to Jade Flores/Paula Valverde of Conestoga Valley 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) in the first round.

Class 2A

  • Paytyn Plank/Kiersten Englebert, Biglerville: The unseeded Canners defeated Erin Sonon/Kelsie Toucher, Fleetwood, 6-1, 6-2 in the first round and lost to top-seeded Monica Lopez/Delanie Edwards of Lancaster Country Day 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the second round.

  • Ella Knox/Balleigh Stetter, Delone Catholic: Fourth-seeded Squirettes defeated Abby Davidheiser/Maci Rohrbach of Brandwine Heights 6-0, 6-4 in the first round and Charlotte Reedy/Lily Chen of Wyomissing 6-2, 6-3 in the second round. They will face the top seeds in the semifinals.

  • Brielle Baughman/Gabby Erdman, Delone Catholic: Unseeded Squirettes defeated Allie Doutrich/Peyton Gertz of Lancaster Mennonite 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) in the first round and third-seeds Ava Sachs/Mia Schreader of Camp Hill 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the second round. They will face second-seeded Sarah Schnatz/Isabella Logazzo of Berks Catholic in the semifinals.
