Diehl, Cawrse, Adkins named MNJ Athletes of the Week

MANSFIELD — Your votes are in!

Mansfield Senior's Andrew Cawrse, Lexington's Jade Adkins and Lucas' Zach Diehl were voted the Mansfield News Journal Athletes of the Week.

Cawrse earned a nomination after advancing out of the Division I sectional golf tournament as an individual with a 44-44-88 for the second straight year. He picked up 5,557 votes.

Lexington's Dylan George, Lexington's Griffin Hughes, Ontario's Dante McGinty, Clear Fork's Connor Haiger, Madison's Landon Goad, Clear Fork's Landon Ball and Mansfield Senior's Quinten DeBolt all earned nominations for MNJ Male Athlete of the Week. There were 11,567 votes tallied.

Adkins earned a nomination after she won the Division II sectional singles tennis championship to punch her ticket to the district tournament. She collected 10,721 votes giving her a second MNJ Female Athlete of the Week award.

Shelby's McKenna Baker, Lexington's Makaree Chapman, Lexington's Bella Temple, Ontario's Lena Creed, Mansfield Christian's Raegan Standridge, Madison's Megan Reynolds, Clear Fork's Brinley Barnett, Shelby's Annie Mahek and Bella Carver, Ontario's Anzaya Estep, Ontario's Hattie Yugovich and Madison's Kyleigh Reiter all earned nominations for MNJ Female Athlete of the Week for their efforts. There were 27,781 votes tallied.

Diehl was named the MNJ Football Player of the Week after earning a nomination by scoring three touchdowns in the first half of the Cubs' 49-14 win over Plymouth including runs of 6 and 7 yards and a 44-yard TD catch. He collected 18,171 votes.

Madison's Chris Atkins, Ontario's Landon Foltz, Mansfield Senior's Zyion Brown, Duke Reese and Jamir Petty and Shelby's Issaiah Ramsey all earned nominations for their efforts. There were 33,806 votes tallied.

Voting for next week's MNJ Athletes of the Week begins on Monday.
