'I didn't want pity': Terry Bradshaw explains why he waited to reveal cancer diagnosis

Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw says he "didn't want pity," so that's why he waited nearly a year to reveal he was diagnosed with not one, but two forms of cancer.

"How do you talk about your problems when everybody else has the same problems or worse?" Bradshaw reflected in an interview that aired Wednesday on NBC's TODAY show.

The Pittsburgh Steelers great only went public after viewers of Fox NFL Sunday — after a segment in which Bradshaw was visibly short of breath — began to question whether or not he should remain on the air.

So he came clean. He was diagnosed with bladder cancer last November and a rare form of skin cancer in his neck in March of this year.

Bradshaw told TODAY correspondent Harry Smith his Christian faith helped get him and his family through the difficult times following his diagnosis.

"I wasn't scared. I don't know why. I never was scared," he said. "My attitude was if I go, I'm OK. If I stay, I'm OK."

Bradshaw was treated for both forms of cancer and says he's now cancer-free. However, the battle has given him a greater sense of perspective.

He and his wife Tammy have put their massive Oklahoma horse ranch up for sale. They have plans to do some traveling, possibly to Europe.

"I dont want to put this off anymore," he said. "I may have 25-30 years left, but I'm gonna act like I've got one."
