Did Texas A&M football have 1 second left vs. Alabama? Jimbo Fisher thought so

As Jalen Milroe’s time-killing pass in the final seconds of Alabama’s game Saturday against Texas A&M sailed out of bounds, it appeared to land in the first row of the Kyle Field stands as the clock went from one second remaining to zero.

At least one notable figure inside the Aggies’ palatial home stadium thinks that there might have been time left.

Did Jimbo Fisher think Texas A&M had 1 second left vs. Alabama?

When asked after Texas A&M’s 26-20 loss to the No. 10 Crimson Tide about the possibility of there still being one second left on the clock, Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher said he did.

“I thought there was one when the ball hits,” Fisher said. “That’s a play everybody works on. You run down there and you do it and it takes about seven or eight seconds. I thought there was one, but I can’t see.”

What replay of Jalen Milroe's final pass vs. Texas A&M shows

Milroe’s pass came on a fourth-and-8 from the Texas A&M 35-yard line, with seven seconds remaining in the game. With his team holding on to a six-point advantage, the Alabama quarterback dropped back and rolled to his right before firing the ball about 30 yards down the field and out of bounds in an attempt to drain the remaining clock and not allow the Aggies an opportunity to get the ball back.

Shortly after Milroe’s pass fell incomplete, referee Daniel Gautreaux told the crowd that Milroe was out of the tackle box and the ball crossed the line of scrimmage – removing the possibility of intentional grounding – and that because of that, the game was over.

Had it been determined that one second remained, Texas A&M would have taken over at its own 35 in need of a touchdown.

A replay of Milroe’s pass can be viewed at the 9:36 mark below.
