Did you see the clutch efforts by these Erie County athletes? Top Performers for Sept. 5-9

Top Performers is an Erie Times-News and GoErie.com feature that highlights some of Erie County's best varsity athletic performances on a weekly basis.

Here are some notable efforts from the first full week in September:

Football

Conner McChesney, Fort LeBoeuf: His two touchdown runs, plus a two-point conversion, comprised the bulk of the scoring for the Bison when they won 22-7 at Titusville.

Jamari Curlett, North East: A 70-yard punt return highlighted his four touchdowns for the Grapepickers when they won 35-0 at Oil City.

Jacob Zietz, General McLane: Not counting his four interceptions on defense, he caught nine passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns when the Lancers defeated Franklin 34-14.

Carson Stevens, Girard: The YellowJackets quarterback threw for 278 yards and five touchdowns during their 49-13 victory vs. the Warren Dragons.

Ethan Alderson, Iroquois
Ethan Alderson, Iroquois

Ethan Alderson, Iroquois: The sophomore’s fumble recovery during the opening kickoff, plus an interception in the fourth quarter, helped the Braves beat Northwestern 13-7 and end an 18-game losing streak.

Paul Johnson, Mercyhurst Prep: His three touchdown passes were part of the Lakers’ 56-6 win at Seneca.

Tyshawn Jones, Harbor Creek
Tyshawn Jones, Harbor Creek

Tyshawn Jones, Harbor Creek: The Huskies’ 400th victory in team history, a 42-0 win against Conneaut, included his 172 rushing yards and three touchdowns during the first half.

Boys soccer

Ben Wolfe, Harbor Creek: His hat trick doubled as all the offense the Huskies needed for a 3-1 win against Girard.

Cooper Robson, General McLane: He scored one goal and assisted on another when the Lancers won 3-1 at Meadville.

Jackson Chiocco, Fairview: His indirect kick-turned-direct goal was the difference for the Tigers in their 2-1 victory vs. the rival Mercyhurst Prep Lakers.

Alejandro Vazquez, Mercyhurst Prep: He assisted on three goals when the Lakers shut out Fort LeBoeuf 7-0.

Andrew Danch, McDowell: He scored two goals to help the Trojans defeat Harbor Creek 4-1 at Gus Anderson Field.

Ethan Bihler, General McLane: He recorded two goals and an assist in the Lancers' 4-3 win at Girard.

Girls soccer

Autumn Waid, Seneca: She totaled two goals and an assist for the Bobcats, who improved to 4-0 overall with their 8-0 shutout of Cambridge Springs.

Sydney Rotko, General McLane: She recorded crooked numbers for a soccer match with five goals and three assists during the Lancers’ 13-0 road rout of Meadville. ... Her four-goal performance, plus an assist on a fifth, highlighted the Lancers’ earlier 11-0 shutout of Erie High.

Callie Cacchione, Cathedral Prep: Her hat trick, plus two assists, highlighted the Ramblers’ 11-2 victory vs. Warren.

Haylee Will, Fort LeBoeuf: She totaled two goals and two assists when the Bison routed Jamestown (Pennsylvania) 10-0.

Molly Taylor, Mercyhurst Prep: She scored four times when the Lakers blanked Cambridge Springs 7-0.

Abbi Erion, Girard: Her four goals comprised the brunt of the offense for the YellowJackets when they beat the visiting Eisenhower Knights 6-1.

Olivia Dixon, Cathedral Prep: She scored two goals and assisted on two others for the Ramblers, who won 5-1 at McDowell.

Rowan Wolfe, Harbor Creek: The freshman netted three goals and dished out two assists in the Huskies' 8-0 win over Erie at Paul J. Weitz Stadium.

Sophie Fritts, Fairview: The freshman registered two goals and two assists during the Tigers' 7-0 victory over Meadville.

Girls volleyball

Grace Allen, Corry: The Beavers swept District 10 rival Conneaut with the aid of her 12 kills.

Katelynn Olmstead, Fort LeBoeuf: The Bison rallied for a five-set victory over McDowell thanks to her 18 kills, 10 digs and six aces.

Amelia Pasinski, Fairview: She recorded 11 kills for the Tigers, who defeated Northwestern in five sets.

Angie Hopson, Union City: Her team-high nine kills helped the Bears sweep Erie High 25-21, 25-22, 25-14.

Talon King, Harbor Creek: She finished with 23 assists when the Huskies swept Conneaut (Ohio).

Hannah Smith, Harbor Creek: Her 11 kills were the most for the Huskies when they swept McDowell.

Cathryn Reynolds, Union City: She turned in 11 kills and 10 digs in a four-set victory over Titusville.

Addica Sperry, Mercyhurst Prep: Her 14 kills and nine digs helped power the Lakers over General McLane in straight sets.

Addyson Greene, Fairview: She had 12 digs, seven aces and 26 assists to power a four-set win over Erie.

Cadence Jones, North East: She recorded 12 kills, seven digs and five aces in a straight-set victory over Cathedral Prep.

Boys cross country

Blake Glass, Fort LeBoeuf: His eighth-place time of 17 minutes, 22 seconds was the fastest for the Bison when they placed second in the team standings for West Middlesex’s Big Red Invitational.

Jude Hayes, Fairview: His time of 17 minutes, 5 seconds was the fastest for a dual between the Tigers and Northwestern.

Michael Werner, Seneca: The Bobcats beat the Union City Bears 15-47 with the aid of his first-place time of 14:07.

Ethan Webb, General McLane: The senior won the Region 5 race between the Lancers and Iroquois (17:09) at Penn State Behrend.

Girls cross country

Anne-Catherine Brown, Cathedral Prep: Her silver medal time of 19 minutes, 17.60 seconds was the fastest of three teammates who finished in the individual top five and helped the Ramblers win the varsity girls team title at the Pat Ritchie Invitational at Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Mackenzie Nelson, Seneca: Her time of 16 minutes, 20.5 seconds was the fastest for a dual between the Bobcats and the rival Union City Bears.

Addison Pettis, Northwestern: The sophomore led all runners with a time of 20:14 in a Region 5 dual between the Wildcats and Fairview.

Boys golf

Braeden Means, General McLane: His ace on the 17th hole of Waterford’s Mound Grove Golf Course highlighted his round of 75, which also helped the Lancers finish first for the Region 5 mega match.

Girls golf

Cora Hirz, Fairview: Her nine-hole round of 37 led the Tigers to first place in a mega match at Scenic Heights Golf Course.

Anna Swan, North East: Her nine-hole round of 33 was the lowest for a region mega match at Scenic Heights Golf Course.

Girls tennis

Lina Warrier, McDowell: She won her No. 1 singles match when the Trojans beat Mercyhurst Prep 4-1.

Paige Patsy, Cathedral Prep: The freshman, starting at No. 1 singles, won a three-setter as part of the Ramblers’ 3-2 dual win over Erie High.

Vivian Liu, Fairview: Her 6-1, 6-0 No. 1 singles victory contributed to the Tigers’ 5-0 dual win over Erie High and the team’s 7-0 overall record.

Anna Poranski, Cathedral Prep: Her 10-4 tiebreaker, which constituted the third set of her No. 1 singles match, was part of the Ramblers’ 4-1 dual victory at Nichols School in Buffalo, New York.
